Long answer: the reason this is happening is probably a combination of your character being in a narrow valley with the camera being zoomed out. To avoid clipping (i.e. the camera moving inside the wall of the valley) the camera moves as close as possible to the usual location without actually moving out of "open air". At least I think that's what's going on . |

If you right-click you should get manual control over the camera angle. Generally, if you let go after this the camera will settle down.

I got the same problem that the camera always re-orient to some unexpected location.
The game's AI seems want to find the best view angle for player to reduce unnecessary control, however, the AI is not as smart as they expected, it always turn to a wrong angle, and we need to rotate it oever and over. I have experienced many times that it turned my character behind the wall/tree, and as my character is running, it will then rotate and rotate the screen all the time..... I have to stop my character, and let it stop rotating the screen, and use right-click to adjust the view angle back to normal......it's poor AI bothering me very much. The already have an option "Free Camera" to prevent this, but there has a bug in this option that it still canot not really fix the camera. Before they can really fix the problem or find the best view angle using AI, I hope that it can provide an option for us to disable this poor AI, and let we fix the camera angle to prevent unnecessary rotation. |

The camera tens to turn back to the location it was facing in the last time that you were standing still.
E.g. You are standing still with cam facing south. You run west, and turn the camera to face west. You stand still again and the camera "reverts" to south. |
