2 Questions: Regarding Pets; Regarding Runes
First question, just wondering if the experienced folks around here have a preferred method for getting quickly 'unstuck' from behind their pet or even another player. I find that during the middle of battle its hard to tell if your character is stuck. I usually hit C and keep whacking but often I get stuck behind my pet and I'm not actually attacking, just standing there hunched over. Other people complain about getting stuck behind my pet as well.. if myself & another warrior are beating up on the same creature.
Second, I read here that there is a small chance of losing a rune when salvaging from armor. I have salvaged my armor runes a couple of times because I have upgraded my basic armor set but I am wondering does the chance of turning the rune into wood increase if it has been salvaged several times? And is there any limit as to how many times the rune can be salvaged other than the risk factor? Thanks for your help! |

There is no increase of bad salvaging the more times you salvage your rune, and there is no limit to the amount of times you salvage.

Regarding the Pet Issue
Pets may not work for you. I find that you should get one at the very beginning if at all. The best one's are Melanderu's Stalkers. They are lvl 5 and a lvl 2 ranger can charm them. As for their usefulness, they are very good. Since I got mine when I was lvl 2, if has always been about 1-2 lvls ahead of me. This mean that when I become lvl 20, in about a week or two, the pet will be lvl 20 as well. Think about it, an extra lvl 20 character in combat. And it doesn't count as your party. They are also easy to keep alive as resurecting them is easy. The only bad thing is that you have to have the charm animal thing in your skill bar, and that takes up space. Right now i'm a lvl 6 and my pet is lvl 7, so you might see the asset.

I use the stalker as my pet and I stopped using it for a few missions so now the pet is 1 level behind me. But I enjoy having it as part of my roleplaying. I just have problems sometimes getting stuck behind it when fighting creatures. So far the quickest way I have found to get unstuck is just start moving my character around with the arrow keys. During battle I typically play with one hand near C & the spacebar for attacking while the other is on the numbers for my skills.

Having a pet is not like having a level 20 character, however with with only 60 AL is like having a elementalist go in melee. You should know how disasterous those are =P

I'm a W/R and i captured a Moa Bird as a pet. Once I got him to 20 (which wasn't that hard), i figured out that, well, it was a waste of space. Having the charm and heal/res spell for pet + the capture signet was not enough to keep me alive and damage at the same time. Pets are great but as Eclair said, they are not that great. Now, unless you have the Elder Widow Spider :P That is a different story.
