Is there any disadvantage to buying the sigil thing from the trader?

No. The only other way to get one is from aperson or from winning the Hall of Heros.The easiest in fact would be the trader.I bought one myself.

k thanks and also I see pics of different guild halls how do u cuztomize em?

you dont actually customize them, you have a choice of about 8 diffrent guild halls, you get to pick which one you want. You can go to Lions Arch and do a tour of the guild halls.
