Brand new player, bit stuck :$
Hi people
Bought Guildwars today, installed it and I'm impressed I chose a warrior when making my character, and have been doing the starter quests. I'm now at the position where I need to get my 2nd profession. I went and spoke to some guy in Green hills(?) who told me to kill some mobs on the road, did that, went back to him and then he told me to go and see Duke Barradin who is north of greenhill. I can't seem to find him anywhere, I've found some lever on a bridge that I've pressed (don't know what that's done though), but when I go too far north some mobs keep throwing fireballs at me (Crawl shermans) or something so I don't last long as I'm only level 2 If anyone could help me out that would be great, thanks |

Getting to Baradin isn't one of the easiest parts of pre-searing. I would recommend finding and doing some of the other quests to level yourself up a bit first. A good start would be to go back and speak to Devona, she has some nice easy quests that will give you some fast xp.

A few notes
Duke Barradin is way out west in Green Hills county. To get there, you have to go off the road and wander west through the hills. At level 2, you might be a little weak to take on some of the enemies, maybe wait until lvl 3 or 4. Once past the hillside, you will see some bridges crossing a river. One of them will lead right to the Barridin estate, just look for the portal once you cross the bridge.
Don't go through the gate with the lever yet. You don't need to go there to get to Barradin, and at level 2 you'll get squashed. BTW, you'll need a friend in the party to pull the lever while you run through the gate. You CANT do it by yourself. I think it's an attempt to get you to team up with a real person. (BTW, at this gate, you've still got a long way west to go to get to Barradin.) Good luck! Dwig |

...there's always a route through the catacombs to get to the Duke too . But yea, that wall with the lever is still faaaar from the Duke, if you haven't spoken to a warmaster with some skills [i believe] on your way then you are not even close yet :P

Thank you all for the replies
It just so happens that I died whilst looking for him (as you suggested because level 2 was not high enough) but then when I respawned, I spawned right by his house rofl, so I've spoken to him and he's told me to kill some mob over at Green hills country and given me a spell, I need to level up a bit first because the mobs I'm passing to get to the quest mob are killing me. What town was Devona in again? lol |

I think im going the wrong way, I teleported to Ashford abbey with the map, there were two swirls, one was the catacombs so I went through the other.
This took me to some place beginning with L, and now Im in reagent valley lol |

The region is called Lakeside County. When you leave the Abbey, the town is right outside, in the little valley to the right. Don't go over the bridge to Regent Valley. Go into the town and you can see Devona on the path just past the waterfall.
An easier way is to talk to Haversdam outside of Ascalon City. He will tell you to talk to Devona and you will have a star/waypoint show up on your map. In fact, if you do it this way, you will get a little XP as well. |

Great, thanks I've killed the mob the duke guy told me to, problem is I'm still trying to get my 2nd profession. The grast dude in Green hill country tells me to go and see the Duke on his estate, and the duke tells me to go and see the grast guy over in green hill country.
Also, if i talk to Armin Saberlin in the city, he also tells me to go and see warmaster grast. What should I do now in order to complete the 2nd profession quest? Last edited by Rupert_Bear; Jun 24, 2005 at 03:26 PM // 15:26.. |

Well, when doing a second profession he should tell you to go to another person. You are choosing a profession other than warrior right (you should get the oppurtunity to try monk, mesmer, elemental, ranger, or necro.) as the second professions that his lists doesn't mean you need to select the warrior one for you but rather the chance to try out somehting different? I don't think you can have a second profession that is same as your primary (but since I have never tried it, I don't know).

Yep, you're just doing warrior quests, but you need to decide upon a different second profession. Speak to one of these people
Monk - Mhenlo in Ashford Abbey Necro - Necomancer Munne (?) in the catacombs Ranger - Master Ranger Nente in Regent Valley Mesmer - Althea just outside Ascalon city Elementalist - Somebody whose name escapes me far to the south past Foibles Fair. Anyway, just ask Armin Saberlin and pick a profession, he'll tell you who to see, and provide a handy green arrow to get you there. (P.S, don't pick monk :P) |

@Myodato, What you've said does make sense, when creating my character, I chose a warrior. Lets say I choose a Necromancer for my second profession (wizard like?) - still gotta read my manuals lol.. Would my character have equal warrior/melee skills and necro/mana skills? If I wanted my character to be as warrior-like as possible, which would be the best second profession to pick? Cheers |

you can get every skills from both professions. the only thing that u won't get is the primary ATTRIBUTE (like Soul Reaping for Necro, Energy Storage for Ele) of the second profession. Also, in the training area, they won't offer all the skills of the 2nd profession to you, so you'll need to buy one or two later on in "post-searing". there's a newb guide in this site. read it. it can answer a lot of your questions.
happy gaming. EDIT: this is the link to the guide: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...lon-id1264.php |

agreed with whats been offered so far:
#1 - To get secondary talk to Amerlin and chose which one you want, then follow the green area on your circular map. #2 - You get access to all of the skills of your 2ndary but not the primary attribute (example: I started Elemental and took Monk as 2ndary - I don't get to put attribute pts into Divine Favor...just healing/protection/smiting). #3 - Some skills of your secondary won't be gained by quests etc so you will need to buy them at different times/locations after you've crossed into Post-Searing. #4 - Better to complete missions from different locations to gain the extra skill pts to spend when buying those skills versus using pts out of the pts earned by levelling. (mission locations will have a shield as the map locator when you bring up the world map) #5 - If you haven't been salvaging certain items you've picked up, you'll need some crafting materials when you reach Post-Searing to get better armour - send me a whisper in-game - mention this thread and I'll give ya some for starters (Cynder Burn is my IGN) |
