Just got the game...
Just got the game last night. Not very impressed so far... not yet.
I was on rpgamer.com and the review shows it's almost a "perfect" game especially for a free online-playing game. I was quite impressed and bought the game the day after. I've only played for an hour but at this moment, I am not TOO impressed. The battle looks a lot like Dungeon siege. Movement is quite similar and maybe I was expecting more... What's the most annoying part is the camera angle. I was using mouse to move/target things. Oh man, what a horrible camera!! The screen would just change view if you are close to a wall and there are times the camera would change the view so much that you can't even target the monster. I guess you just have to rely on WSAD which I hate.... How do you guys solve the camera problem? By using WASD? |

No...I just use the mouse. I find it really easy. And I HATE WASD, I just can't use them.

Camera was awkward for me at first, but now it's second nature. I use WASD in all my games, and it works well(unless you're left handed). Keep playing the game, it gets much better once you "graduate" from the academy.

I couldnt agree with this statement more. You can move the camera anywhere you want to.

just use the up arrow or any button you configure as forward hold the right mouse down and use the mouse to point the character where you want them to go and at the same time use the mouse for camera angle and near or far it gets to be second nature no WASD for me |

Ok, not "camera angle"... it's the "view" that is odd.
Yeah, I haven't graduated from the academy yet and I still have zero skill in my skill slot 'cause I spent an hour wandering around and killing some easy stuff. lol This "free roam" camera view is a bit annoying for me right now. I am not too used to 3D style game. I find WASD annoying as well but I think WASD give you better control while you can use your mouse to click on the monster, the person to talk to or maybe even skills. Well, another thing I don't really like is the fact that you are almost forced to join a Guild/Party. I am a soloer most of the time. I only have about 1-2 hours of playing time per night and sometimes it takes 10-30mins to find quality party members. I thought there was a Single Player off-line game that I can play first and get used to the environment and storyline. I didn't know I have to start "online". lol Hopefully I can get used to this "free roam" camera view. It is quite annoying when you are close to the wall and I remember it took me a while to be able to TALK to the first merchant!! When I try to walk close to him, the camera would just switch to the opposite view!! I was like WTF?!! |

Yes you do need to party, but that doesn't make the game lame. If you could solo through the whole thing then it would just be one giant exploit game with no real purpose and balance. But you can use henchmen, and contrary to what many say they are not as hard to use as you would think. But you said you haven't even been past the academy. There is no need for you to group before that (besides two quests, one which you should do for Resurrection Signet, the other is just for fun/exp). The problem here is not because the game has flaws (it does have them like any game, but you will hardly realize them if any during Pre-Academy time) but it's because you are still in the "newbie" zone. Before the Academy IS the solo, get-use-to-the-game-and-have-fun part where you learn how to play. And you do quests to get skills (and later you can buy them from Skill Trainers if you don't want to quest). So just killing things blindly isn't going to do any good but get you exp and loot. Talking to NPCs will get you a long way in the game, like it does in lots of RP type games.

I mostly use the keyboard. The only time I use the mouse is picking up items, broadcasting statuses (ctrl+mouse click stuff) and talk to NPCs. There are shortcut keys to select closest target and team members, and you can remap WASD to ESDF (thats what I did, now I do not need to move my fingers to type). i also like to move all the info into one area of the screen, (like moving target health and exp bar to the skill bar area), so all you need to do during combat is to focus on that area of the screen. This saves you a lot of camera angle issues and make your game more efficient. And someone said lefties may have problem with WASD.. well i'm one and I don't have problem, cos I adapted myself to the right-handed mouse. Just play the game and you'll start to get a feel of it. PM me here if you need help in game. |
