Level 4 early impressions of game
I just started playing yesterday and am only at level 4 right now, but wanted to give a few impressions of the game so far. At least for me.
I should tell you folks that this is only the second game of this type I???ve ever played, with the first being Asheron???s Call 2 which I only played for a couple of months. The only reason I left that game was because of a low population and there weren???t enough new players around to do quests etc., with at my level. Other than that I really enjoyed the game. So take my opinions with a grain of salt and please don???t bash that game. Now on to my early impressions. First the good; No monthly fees, I need say no more on this one. Great idea! Absolutely gorgeous graphics, better than a lot of single player games The ease to get playing. I got this game online and while I wish I had an actual manual, the TOTAL time it took me to download the client and get playing couldn???t have been more than 10 min. on a cable connection. This streaming stuff is a great innovative idea. The interface so far seems really simple and well laid out. Now the bad; The very first thing to greet me when I got to an area with a lot of people milling about was, ???Wanna join our Guild?, you can, but you hafta be into ???gangbangin??? chicks!??? OK, err??? ummm. Didn???t leave a good impression on me. Now I may be an old coot, but this kind of thing gives me the idea that there???s a lot of 12 and 13 yr old kids playing the game. Now don???t get me wrong. I have nothing against kids, most of em are great. I have a 13 yr. old daughter myself, but this kind of stuff left a bad taste in my mouth. And it???s not like I???m this religious rigid crotchety old fart. One of my favorite jokes is from the old TV show ???Leave it to Beaver??? if any of you guys remember that. ???Ward, you were a little rough on the Beaver last night!???. Now that???s funny! Just my opinion. Another thing was that people just weren???t very friendly, as least to me. I must have asked for help at least 5 or 6 times and got absolutely no response. I mean none! Every time I saw people around in the different areas I would ask a question, (after a while just to see if I would get an answer), and after playing for over 2 hrs, not one person answered me. Strange. Guess you have to be persistent. I???ll keep trying though. I have to at least get my 50 bucks worth before I give up on this puppy. The only other gripe I have at this point is I don???t know what things to keep and what to get rid of. I keep killing all these creatures dropping all kinds of funky stuff, but what???s good to keep and what???s not? For a game that???s supposed to be so newbie friendly, it seems like there might be some sort of in-game help system explaining some of these things. Course it could be because I???m not the sharpest knife in the drawer either, but when people don???t answer you???re questions, it makes it tough. All that being said however, the solo experience has been a lot of fun for me so far, and I think I probably will get into it a lot more once I meet up with some other players who think more like myself. So if you???re an old coot like myself, (BTW, my in-game name is Ol Geezer), send me a message. Maybe we could start a guild for the ???over 30??? crowd who like ???sick??? jokes! |

I'm actually helpful in the game, i give out free quest item to both my guildmate or other peoples and that i like to help people out with hard quests. I do agree with you that some people act like retards but just ignore them and keep on playing, eventually you will run into good players that would like to join your team and help out.

Welcome to the game, fezz.
This is my absolute first online game, so not only do I have to learn the game but the lingo and the etiquette as well! Please be patient about guilds. Don't join one you don't feel comfortable with, and you can go through the whole game enjoyably I think without joining one. I joined someone's guild because I knew them in real life; then we recruit in-game by not recruiting. We just play with people, chit chat, and if they like us and we like them, we'll ask if they want an invite. Some people have left their intense pvp guilds to join our little co-op guild, just to play for fun. Our average age (long as everyone is telling the truth!!) is late 20s-mid 30s. We don't take it too seriously but love the community aspect of it. In short, I think there are a lot of people out there you can have fun with. Again, lots of jerks, spammers, scammers, and greedy bastages--but lots of normal people too. Many of your questions are probably addressed on this main site, and there are other "fansites" out there as well. If I had been in a town when you asked questions, I would have answered! |

In every game there will be people who are jackasses and people who are absolutely great. Once you get to know people you'll find out that the majority of us are actually laid-back, easygoing people.
I'm not in the over 30 crowd, but if you ever have any questions, my in-game name is over on the left. <----- |

Hang with it. You are experiencing basically the tutorial section of the game and will have a higher level of immaturity, then the farther along you go. Don't get me wrong there will always be people with characters named "BlowMe", and people still spam guild invites, but once you get the hang of things it is easy to turn off the chat channels occasionally and enjoy the instances.
Don't really worry about what to keep and what to ditch (except keep all dyes, don't let someone talk you out of them as they are worth more at upper levels if you don't use them yourself) You will be accumulating new weapons, new armor and new drops all along the way as you progress. If you run out of storage room sell something to a merchant, keep the stackable items to enable you to carry more in less space. Once you do a certain mission and move to the next game area you will be able to get more storage space. In the next area people are more willing to answer questions too. The area you are in is fairly devoid of experienced players, who spend little time there and quickly get to the meat of the game. Once you complete that "certain Mission" your game experience will change some, as you start grouping with people for missions and more trading occurs. Hang with it. I think you will enjoy. |

Welcome
Welcome Fezz. I'm new to this game also, been playing a little over a week. I found that early in the game its hard to get help from people because everyone just ignores the text box in towns. It's always people trying to sell stuff or "<Name> starts dancing," etc. The best way to get help is by reading forums on here. Once you progress higher (about lvl 10) you can meet up with people and do quest and you will actually be playing with more adults. People actually read the text box more also.
I'm a former Asheron's Call 1 player (though I never played AC2, I can say it was a great game). I'll look for you in-game and maybe I can give you a hand if you need it (although like I said I'm still new also), so we'll figure stuff out together |

Too many responses...
The things you listed that you didn't like with the game are unavoidable, some people blame the kids on no monthly fee but I've played and seen WoW it's just as bad if not worse. This cannot be fixed so classifying it as a bad thing isn't really fair. All your problems seem to be with the community, get a good guild and your problem is solved. As for what items to keep, hang around the trade forum and you'll see what people buy and sell, that kind of stuff is what you keep. Early in the game however the only thing you'll want to worry about are dyes anything else you don't plan on using can just get tossed right into the merchant. Dyes can be sold at the Dye Merchant for a nice early game boost in gold. I sit in ashford abby in pre-searing when I am too bored to do a quest and answer peoples questions and laugh at the people offering 10 gold for dyes claiming it's a good deal because the merchant offers 1. So to sum it up. Get a nice guild. Sell everything you aren't going to use to merchants except dyes. Laugh at scammers. You don't sound like you're going to be heavy into PvP but you'll most likely get bored with the game after beating it once if you don't. |

Holy crapola! People are talkin to me! Seriously though, I appreciate the time you guys have taken to give me a bit more info on the game. Like I said I have nothing against kids. Just the punks. lol.
Now kids, don't start flaming me now, I'm just kiddin! I'll continue playing because even doing stuff solo has been fun so far. Kind of like a single player RPG which is nice. And besides, I have absolutely nothing to lose other than my 50 bucks. (hey wait a minute, 50 bucks is a lot of money!) Oh and Rar, you're right of course, it has been mostly more community stuff I've been complaining about which isn't fair to the actual game. I think it's because comparing this to the other game with a much smaller closely knit group of people kind of threw me for a loop. Not used to all these people around! And lets face it, with the good you get the bad. Last edited by fezz47; Jun 30, 2005 at 10:05 PM // 22:05.. |

I have the similar complaint.
I bought the game last night and only played for an hour since I needed to sleep earlier. Anyway, I actually DID NOT know that there is no off-line Single Player. I always start playing the Single Player mode first so I know what's going on before joining the Multi-player online, like the storyline and where the towns are. So, I started a Ranger and I saw tons of people walking around in the town. And I also see a lot of messages and many of them start with "can somebody help me with this Quest....." NO ANSWER. Or, I'll see something like "I can help you finish the first part of the game but you need to pay me $500 first". Sounds like a scam to me. lol I know there are always jackass online but newbies like me, really need some help and I can hardly get any. But luckily, I found somebody who actually replied to my "help me" messages and solved some of my confusions (like I have zero skills so far!). I was hoping there's an off-line mode so I can learn it better myself but the game is designed ONLY towards multi-player online. I don't even think soloing is a good idea especially later on in the game. This kind of game is just not very suitable for me since I can probably only play 1.5 hour per night. |

No offense, but I also think your salary gets higher and higher. Scale of economy. Things just have "bigger" numbers now than before.
This is not to suggest you shouldn't manage your money wisely. But $50 in exchange for HOURS AND HOURS of fun is CHEAP entertainment in my book. Those game companies need money to create new/better games so I have no problem paying $50 for a GOOD game. |

jib don't worry. that's the nice thing about this game that it has no monthly fee. and you can always go out on your own in the newb area and get familiar b4 you further your adventure. and i do agree that there're more jerks now than b4 in the newb area. you'd still find some nice peeps tho. maybe try playing at a later hour so the kids are in bed.

Nah Jib, Im just kidding. I usually play FPS games, and nowadays if you get 10 hrs out of them you're doing good.
But in my defense, Im a musicion in a local rock band and I swear to God Im making the exact same ammount of cash I was back in the early 80's, so while most peoples salaries get higher and higher some of us who play music aren't doing so well. LOL Oh and Destroyer, never mind, you're still a young pup! |
