Ruby
Okay I did a search on just that word and I got two threads that er.. didn't have much to do with what I was lookin for.
So sorry if I've missed an obvious thread about this item, but has anyone else found one? It's a rare crafting item.. I'm guessing for a wand or for decoration of a sword or something. I'm holding onto that and my montrous claw.. can't believe people get rid of stuff like that just cos they can't figure out what to do with them lol. They'll be kickin themselves.. |

I have seen a ton of crafting materials, but never seen Ruby, do you remember what you salvaged for it or was it just loot?
I did do a little research, but all I found were more questions then answers... |

It was a drop from the level 3 elementals outside Old Ascalon (I never know if I spell that right :P )
I go out there and train 8-10 at a time to make money. So far I have gotten 2 lots of charcoal, a black dye and that ruby as simple drops. I think these are random, it has nothing to do with how long you fight them for or anything. My black dye I got on my second run so my 25th or so Stony. It's quite exciting having something like a ruby.. I bet I delete the bugger by mistake! |

I've got a ruby as well, same thing as you was fighting outside ascalon and it was a simple drop. Got excited when I saw the usually lame merchants were willing to pay 250 for it so I kept it. Still don't know what it's for. Let me know if you find out.

Funny how these rare drops which people still don't know what they are for seem to happen RIGHT when we're first starting the game and are cash strapped.. I found a Monsterous Claw early on (like you guys, outside Old Ascalon) and took that baby to the bank. 100g!! That's a lot for a low level character.
I bet one day soon we'll see a bunch of lvl 20's farming outside Old Ascalon once we realize those things are critical components of later weapons. PS - On a *completely* separate note, I'll buy that ruby from you for 300g! |

Hmm 300 gold for the rarest thing in the game so far? Add a few zero's, baby.. And I think you might start to kick yourself for selling that Monstrous Claw for 100 gold...

The monstrous claws aren't so rare... I mean, they are, but in my short time of playing I've gotten one and seen a couple. I think I got two actually, I salvaged one cuz I had no space left and it gave me like 20 bones or something. I still have one sitting in my stash. I also have a monstrous eye, seen a fang and that's it for the monstrosities.

I too found a Ruby as a simple drop in Old Ascalon.
I bought the Prima guide and there's no mention in there at all about them. They list the compoents required for every armor too... As of the June 9 update, when you get to Lion's Arch there is a Rare Crafting Material Trader. You can buy Claws there but they are EXPENSIVE. |

I have the prima guide too, and the list is very incomplete, It also doesnt list what items are needed to make other crafting materials (some of them but doesnt list all) so they may be a crafting component to something.

Basically the best thing you can do with Rare drops like that is save them in your storage item till someone really finds out what they're for.
It could be something that's in the game code that is glitching into appearance and isnt supposed to be there till another expansion is released. One never knows. |

Nothing beats a good mystery. I haven't found any of these rare items mentioned above. However, if there isn't some far off corner crafter that uses them to craft special artifacts, then I'd bet thier use will become more evident as future chapters are released. Wouldn't surprise me if the Devs were to think that far ahead, afterall the creator of Babylon 5 (TV show) had all 5 seasons laid out before filming even began.

Since my post above I have seen two ruby's drop in UW. Both around me, neither for me
Suppose I shouldn't be greedy, though a saphire or diamond would make a good partner for my ruby. |

Although, no luck on rubies, sapphires or what not so I better keep looking. Odds are with this game, when rubies are used for crafting, having just one might get you the lace for the next crafted boots . |
