1. Simple solution: play another character and take a break from your ranger. Trying different professions and skill combinations can help you realize the strengths and weaknesses of your other characters.
2. If PvP is boring you, then play more PvE.

Not getting hit tends to keep you from dying.

MCS, however cynical, is right. When you play a ranger, or any character but a warrior or geomancer for that matter, you have to learn how not to get hit. Play from the back, ranger's are especially good at that, even better than the other ranged classes in some cases. Learn how to kite and how to make others aggro the tanks of your group. It takes time for some people to learn how, just keep at it.

maybe you forget you are a ranger and think your a Warrior and equip a sword and go in with a sword and realise none of your skills work because they are all Ranger techniques?

Anyway, try other characters, do more PvE, or check out the ranger build threads here to see if you liek em. Also, post your current build to see if we cannot help you. |

And as to your question Pierreluc, if you want to deal damage, try taking ele as your secondary proffesion, you can then take a conjure spell with a certain type of elemental bow string for an added punch, combine that with a preperation, mabey some natural rituals like Favourable winds and Winnowing. There are some really good Ellite Wilderness Survival Skills that can help do damage. I use a trapper build quite allot in PvP, just consists of Poison Arrow, Throw Dirt, the 3 main damage traps, Troll Ungeunt and then somethings like Storm chaser and Kindle arrows, or whatever. With this build I either set the traps and wait for the enemies to come then keep all of them Poisoned to make things hard for healers, or I run in with the Warriors use throw dirt on any warriors in the vicinity so I can concentrate on laying traps and then poisoning. As for the boredom in the PvE aspect, someone mention exploring, I agree that that is actually quite a cool thing to do, especially on your own as it really make you feel like an adventurer or something. (Which is what RPG is all about I guess, being someone else). Last edited by corax5; Jul 02, 2005 at 11:52 PM // 23:52.. |

I'll tell you this as I did to all other rangers out there. I've played since the first betas playing as a ranger. And guess what ? I bet 100k I know more than you about rangers. Just keep your mouth shut. Rangers are ONLY good when it comes to ranger combos. Example: * Ranger * Ranger * Ranger * Ranger * Ranger * Ranger * Monk * Monk Let's say you're in the competition arena grouped with none-rangers. Every teammate you got dies and it's only YOU left cause of your crapskills. You can either: * Leave the game * Try to ressurect and get killed ( some rangers don't have res cause they rely on their noobskills ) or just rush in and get owned. My english isn't the best so I can't exactly explain why rangers suck. I think you understand what I mean or you seriously need professional help. |

I would like to shoot every ranger who equip skill such as storm chaser and such "running" skills in the head (unless your build use storm chaser to gain energy and such, instead of for solely running away). They do nothing but run the moment they get attack... yes awesome, now the attacker go attack other team mate and all you do it running away. Now, all it is left is you, you lose regardless... IT IS A TEAM GAME, you do not drop your team behinde and run away. The only time you should run is when your team is running with you, stop being a selfish jerk and run away from your team.
Ranger aren't bad, it is the player who think they can run and keep only him/herself alive are bad. The above are dialy life in random arena and targeted to those ranger who think running a mile away can help them win the game. |

Having running skills doesnt mean you have to use them to run away, I agree that rangers who run away when their group is getting killed are stupid, but running skills are very usefull when you need to get into range of the fighting if your not for whatever reason, or if you need to chase the last person in a team who keeps running off and wont die.

Hate to add fuel to the fire but rangers with the right combo are still damn usefull. I regularly run a team with 1 or two rangers. The Trick is to remember that they are support.
I NEVER run a team at the moment without a ranger spirit spammer. The Ranger brings Tigers Fury, Apply Posion, Edge Of Extinction, Frozen Soil, Fertile Season, Natures Renewal, Oath Shot And Res Signet. Thanks to the fact that alot of the people in guild wars think the same way as you about rangers he's rarely targeted. Also thanks to the ranger we only need to bring 2 monks. I'd reveal how this is possible but since you know more then anybody else about rangers I'm sure i don't have too. And If you PvP in the tombs It's only a matter of time before we wipe the floor with you as well. |
