Why post a new one ? There is already one posted (as you were kind enough to mention). It's a useless thread...
and for the poll.. keep it at 20. I don't play much and I love being able to be competitive. I was playing to Knight Online before GW and the only time you can do some PvP were when you are lvl 60 and +... which takes quite a few weeks to achieve. |

I'm against raising it for 3 reasons.
1. It unbalances the game. Having more HP makes some professions godly and others worthless. 2. It removes the planning needed to allot attribute points and using runes, destroying a vital portion of the game. 3. It rewards play time instead of strategy. |

I would imagine that, at some point, the cap will be raised. It will probably happen when the expansions come out, otherwise what's the incentive for players to -buy- the expansion (not talking about myself here) if they can't attain higher levels? Sure the new weapons, armor, areas, quests, etc. are nice, but a lot of people are going to want more levels. I don't have a problem with that.

I honestly can't imagine raising the level cap. It would require rebalancing almost all of the current skills, which, given how intricate the balance currently is, would be a nightmare on Arenanet's part. The only viable way I can see of raising the level cap is to "space" levels out more, doing nothing but increasing grind alone (e.g. if the level cap is set to 80, each level up gives you 5 health, and you get 1/4 as many attribute points per level up, so in effect, a level 80 character is the same as a level 20 character is now, only that it takes longer to reach,) which I think is pretty pointless.

That would mean less and less people in PvP, me for starter! As I said, I don't play much, few hours per week I guess.. I wouldn't be able to compete against people spending their entire days in the game. And I don't plan to raise the number of hours I'm playing (my girlfriend would cut my head off )

I think the main problem is that there are PvE extremists who think of Guild Wars as another MMORPG such as EQ or WoW, minus the monthly fee. Guild Wars is different. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash PvE-ers as I myself do enjoy the PvE game, and I can understand why they'd want to have something more to be able to achieve or accomplish, but raising the level cap is not the answer. Realistically, the only 2 ways to raise the level cap are to either rebalance almost all of the skills, the costs/effects of attribute points, and the health cost of runes (which would be nearly impossible on Arenanet's part, besides taking GW offline for many months of testing), or to space the levels out, which would not add "more" accomplishment; it would be the same accomplishment, only it takes longer to attain, which is really the same as GW as it is now, but with more grind.

I really don't see much benefit to raising the level cap. I'm from the old school RPG's when monster hunting for levels and loot was a primary part of the game - ahh those good old 5.25" floppy disk days :} - and while the notion of having no cap whatsoever appeals to me, in the grand scheme of Guild Wars, it's really an unnecessary option. Clearly, one need not be above Level 20 to complete the game and to participate in the PvP arenas, so the only use for the cap being raised is for the hard-core element to show off their amount of time playing the game: "Look at my Level 169 Warrior - I've played 7/24 for two weeks straight!!!!" -- big whooping deal, I actually have a life.
Even if the cap is raised, that won't affect arenas that already place a level limit for participation, and the ones that don't will more than likely have a level limit added just to prevent people from being overwhelmed by more powerful characters. If the devs have any intention of raising the limit, it's also probable that they will create new arenas for the higher level characters to participate in. I'd personally like to see a third 15 point attribute quest put into the game....but I don't see a reason to raise the level(atleast not until the expansion comes out...if that) Keeping it at lvl 20 keeps the game challengin(somewhat) and balanced(somewhat)...

I assumed that at some point in the future that the level cap would be raised, but now I hope it isn't. this game is amazingly balanced atm, and I'd hate to see that changed just to satisfy those strange people who enjoy grinding.
Afterall, 20 is just a number. |

If things can be balanced at 20 they can be balanced at 50 or 100,Its only the PvP extremists who want to freeze it at 20.If Anet were to continue catering to the minority instead of the majority their expansion sales IE bottem line will go out the window.Yes i play PvP in fact i play it more than PvE,and have never bought the phoney lvl cap theory.

You know, I'm not sure if I'm in favor of a higher level cap, but it would be nice to have more PvE content. This is a very cool game for someone like myself who's not really into PvP, but can still get the social aspect of an online game. I'm only at level 9 right now, so I still have a lot of gameplay left for PvE. And I'm certainly sure I'll get my money's worth so I'm not complaining, but if they add more PvE contet it would be almost like a dream come true for someone like myself.

If there were more attribute points, there were less strategy involved, because you can easily max out 3-4 attributes or even more. |
