Give your pet to the pet trader right outside of Old Ascalon, or the guy next to Ranger Nente in Pre-Searing. Then, find an animal that's got green text (ally text) then use Charm animal on it.

Yep it is
Yeah, changing your pet is completely possible. First you need to find a npc named Jarrel the Tamer he'll take your current pet. Then you're able to tame another one. If you're pre-searing, then Jarrel can be found in Regent Valley near Master Ranger Nente. If you're post-searing, then Jarrel is just outside of Ascalon City.

Yes you can give your pet to a couple of different Npc's. There is one right outside of ost searing ascalon simply talk to him and say that you think it is time to find a new companion. Then you can simply use charm animal to get another one. As the game progresses you can get boars, bears, wolves, and lizards in addition to cats and birds.
Note before you do this, keep that cat around for a little bit, there is a quest to the west of the exit of post sear ascalon which requires giving up a merlandus stalker to the npc, its an easy bit of exp. Note, If you arnt in post yet dont worry bout canging our pet there is no reason to yet. |

Many people argue that the Black Widow Spider is the best pet, but others disagree. Like I was told in a similar post, it is just whatever pet you like best. I, for instance, like the brown bear the best.

1. In the Uw, when you finish a quest there, a chest with a black widow inside drops.
2. Go to any tamer, and they will get rid of it. |

There is a quest where you CAN get rid of the stalker. You'll get some skills that you should have already gotten presearing, plus a bit of xp. It's located next to the statue of Balthazar west of Ascalon City.

I don't think the animal has to be green to charm it. I charmed a wolf as a pet that was attacking me. I have tried several times to charm a bear, but they keep "breaking charm".
Also, when you get a new pet, it won't be the same level as you are and it takes awhile for them to catch up in levels. |

When you use charm animal, or when you aggroed that animal, it turns red, but it can still be charmed. |

Pets do get DP, making them less effective for each death.
