If they were making this game like real life: - You'd only get on character slot. - You wouldn't be able to choose your character's sex, hair color, skin color, height, or name, though for a price you could change your character's hair color, hair style, or name. - You would have to pay for food and water on a regular basis and would have to spend a third of your time watching your character sleep. - You would not auto-heal and conditions would be permanent unless removed by a spell. - Once your character died for any reason, your character would be deleted and your account would be banned. |

On one hand I think this whole issue is overrated, we are only arguing about it today because it was a gold storm bow, and that's it.
I've got some of my drops stolen in UW before, and while it is nothing as impressive as a storm, hey, it is still stuff that I'd probably like, but ultimately at the end of the day I just remember those guys as turds and not play with them anymore. Having dialog boxes and fixed reservation systems are just plain silly. Come on, suppose a gold storm bow dropped for you in UW and the monk died while he is rezzing, what then? Everyone got booted out of UW and Balthazar just got a 500 platinum offering. Does that mean some convoluted new system will have to be built just to handle this rare occurence? I'd hate it if it happens to me, but hey, when I'm under focussed fire I know one thing, RUN and hope the enemies will retarget and get healed up again before charging.. instead of happily standing in that chaos storm/absorbing damage/etc When you are dead, an item should not time out.. That's it, there should be no other provision apart from this. If you are alive, and fail to pick an item up, then it should be fair that it is fair game after a while. |

Ok listen, if a gold storm bow drops for me and everyone dies, thats tough luck. If a gold storm bow drops for me, and I could have been rezzed, butthe idiot decides not to because he wants the item. That is the differnce between you dieing on Fear Factor because your rope snapped just after you won the 50 grand, or the person you were competeing with holds everyone up with a gun so she can get the 50 grand. What do you do afterwards? You have her arrested, but in MMOGs there is nothing you can do about it, because of the lie rate, from people who want to scam the company into giving them a free item. |

On aother note, the item should only be public if your connection dropped. Also an experience with me, a perfect purple Fiery Dragon Sword dropped for me and i died before I could reach it, the Mo (with res might i add) zoned out to town! Mind you, this is back in the first week the game came out so that was a really rare drop and could have made a few plat off of that drop. This is where they need the "Unclaimed Items Box" for any zone. |

of course for all the people that just warp by map, they should be omitted from any of these personal/party items since it would defeat the purpose of team play and they'd just keep warping in and out with new parties until they find what they want. |

If they are still alive and leave the loot then too bad for them. I have actually grouped with someone once who didnt want any white loot. So he just picked everything up and dropped it again for anyone to pick up so we didnt have to wait for the timer, but he didnt want his bag to get full. Everyone else left with a full bag

I'm a little confused... what makes a drop changed from (yours) to public?
Do u have to be dead for it to change? Because before I never thought ppl could take ur stuff, but when i was in Fissure, I saw a Gold item that had my name on it and then someone picked it up....so I had to do a dbl take......maybe my name wasn't on it... |

The items have a timer on it (5 mins I think but dont quote me on that since I pick up all my loot ) after the time it up it becomes public and anyone can grab it.

Yard Trash
the best way to avoid getting screwed is to avoid Yard Trash at all costs. Get a good guild, with teamspeak and a decent website, even if it means you have to be in "recruit" status for a while. Five years ago I ended my days as a lone pubber and hooked up with a rock solid clan. I will quest with henchies over yard trash any day of the week.

Lol Yard Trash :P I like doing missions and runs with guildies and all, my guild is usually there for me if I ever need anything. But it shouldn't be that you have to solely rely on guildies to do anything. It's true that being in a decent guild will make life easier for most people, though. There's always people to talk to and ask for help and advice.
I occasionally like using pickup groups and making new friends, sometimes they even end up joining my guild. It is a hassle to keep things organized, but it can also be pretty rewarding. In the case of the original post I lost a rare storm in the process of being in a pickup group, but it's not a huge loss and I won't let it keep me from doing my thing. |

On the other hand there are some cool players out there. We had a group in the underworld for HOURS. Towards the end, four of eight remained, and we were fighting the worms, almost to the statue. We got wiped up by the statue and the last person had no rez, but a max damage blue dragon sword fell for the monk. She told him to port and she would grab it and meet him in the toa district 1. Sure enough, there she was waiting to give him his sword. Cool group of people and when I was lfg later they picked me up. Sometimes people don't understand doing the right thing can be alot more rewarding then being a ahat.
To all the run out and grab the item thing; so when I am playing my healer monk it's ok for me to not heal you and grab my items? I did that to one player who played like that. Kept running off in fights to grab his loot so I told him if he didn't stop that I would do the same. I stopped on the way to heal the others as he slowly died while I grabbed my junk drop. "O, I am sorry you died but I had to grab my loot!" He left the group and we finished the rest of the mission alot easier then when he was there due to the fact no one was paying attention to him while fighting. I can be a big ahat too but not to those who don't deserve it. It's not to smart to tick off your healers during a mission. They can pretty much control your fun level for the rest of the mission and if thats a tool I have to use to play daddy to six year olds... then so be it. |
