As far as punishment, I don't see how. Even screen shots may not be able to prove how long it was that he/she left you dead so they could grab the item. I don't know hwhat good it would do to complain but then again 1 or 2 complaints probably won't get them into trouble but if this is his/hers regular tactic then a few complaints might get him into trouble or at least a look by the powers that be. So I would go ahead and send an email to ANet. Let them know that you realize if you were the first one complaining they may not do anything, you just wanted to a get rapport going so that they could possible start a log on this person. This leads me to another possibility (but I think it would get way too abused) some type of thread that allows users here to post on bad/scamming players. List character name and type and what exactly they did. After so many complaints on the same character, they get published on that list(being that someone will probably attempt to get someone else in trouble for no reason whatsoever plus misunderstandings do occur and the mods and admins would have to get involved so again I don't know if its even feasible). We'd have to constitute what is considered bad manners ie charging outrageous prices imo isn't bad manners nor is not knowing what to do but scamming someone or leaving during a mission without a valid reason, I would consider to be wrong. We'd also have to allow the accused the oppurtunity to defend themselves and give their reason or rationale as to why they did. Pretty much intense thing that could get abused (of course putting in some constraints may ellivaite this but who knows) and probably not doable but hey at least talking about it is better than doing totally nothing. I know in D2 HC on several boards we maintained a listing of known Pkers and Hack pkers so that we knew to avoid any games where those names showed up in. If a person intentionally waits to acquire a dropped item to become public before the original owner it was tagged to is rezzed then thats shameless and i would be mad,no need for anybody here who's had this happen to grow up.

if someone really waits full 5 minutes for a drop to become public yes then I agree that's lame.
but if you fight and you die at the start of a battle, let's say 1 monk survives.. and it's 4 minutes later and he rezzes a few people it becomes public he picks it up you get rezzed didn't get it.. so be it, afterall you died.. he did not. |

Bleh, join a real guild and just go with guildmates. Then this sort of crap doesn't happen. If it still happens, you can either leave the guild or get them booted. It all comes down to playing with trustworthy people. In EVERY MMORPG greed will be a huge factor. I've had this same sort of thing happen to me multiple times in pickup teams. It annoyed me more that the idiot was making us all wait to get rezzed than it did he was taking the item. I'm already past the point in GW where money really maters, so people doing this sort of dumb **** doesn't phase me that much.

hahaha I've done that to someone for a rune (mind you he went AFK for 5 minutes so I didn't feel the slightest bit bad.) Theres actually 2 ways to look at this. The person that got the drop and is extremely lucky, or the person that didn't get the drop and is extremely unlucky. Now if you're the only person left... maybe the drop is for you at that point.
Having drops never go public would be STUPID. If this happened there would be so many good items gone to waste. Lots of people dont pick items that are good for you and bad for them. Also if someone leaves then a good drop just went to waste and everyone feels bad. A possible solution could be to make the drop non visible to anyone except the claimed name. And then after it becomes public there could be a message on screen " This item just went public ". Maybe not even show when people pick items up. Because the less godly drops you see someone else get, the less you feel shitty that you're getting nothing. |

I agree with Konquest's reply. Start the timer when you are revived.

I think all non-quest are NEVER public. If you do get disconnected it'd be nice to log back in and have the "loot box" similar to in missions. I'd be pissed if something godly dropped and then my cable went out.
For all of you who keep spatting this "You died, your fault, it should be public" bullshit, you're turning this game into Diablo 2. A bunch of eleven year olds completely ignoring battle and clicking on the map in a seizure-like madness. Completely oblivious to everyone else and only worry about yourself - why PUGs suck ass. |

This is why I always pick everything up, even the stuff I wont use. Being a warrior I'm usualy right there when things drop, so it's not a problem realy.
Personaly, I'd rather trash the stuff I wont use than let it go public and have someone else pick it up. |

it is about 5 minutes on the drops being reserved, so unless you die, i see no reason to leave something lying for 5 minutes unless you didnt see it, and if you didnt see it, you certainly dont know it was yours.
ive had people take my drops in fissure when i have died, oh well, good luck for them, ill even go back with the same group, im not that worried about a few items and as for people getting in trouble for taking a drop that has went public, you all know they go public after a while, it is so others can pick up what you dont, so people arent going to get in trouble for picking up something they are allowed to. the one guy kinda makes me mad if he is deliberately avoiding battle just to get the party destroyed to get their drops, however he wont get in trouble either, if you email anet about it they will just tell you not to party with him |

I would love to add people to my ignore list, but it seems capped at 25. not jus 25 ignore, no. 25 = friends + ignored. and frriends are more important then ignored people, so i find myself emptying my ignore list. shame, i wish i could extent it. |
