Hyrda's are just really powerful. They don't seem too tough to kill, but you have to do it before they lay waste to you. Kinda like an elementalist :P

They love to drop a meteor as soon as they get within the aggro range. The method I used was to just use Distracting Shot on one....having one meteor drop on you isn't TOO bad. Unless you start pulling the Hydra in groups of 5. Then...just bring a few lvl 20's around. Bound to be fun anyway.
The only thing I saw worth anything was the mural. =P I only got as far as the bridge though...so keep going! |

The meteor is the most powerful and usually the very first attack that a hydra will launch. As a monk I use Reversal of Fortune (when fighting a single Hydra) or Protective Bond (when fighting multiple Hydras) to keep the meteor damage low.

Hydras are more intimidating than they appear, really. A lot of people seem to think that they're really strong, but they're not as great as those people think. Aside from their spells (meteor specifically), they're just weak melee fighters, so just get past the meteor and you're usually fine.

Yep i'll agree with Sholtar. Once your up close its pretty easy. (As long as your not in a group of 5 hydras).

They are just a 3 headed scaley squishy elementalist. It's the same reason the air spiker pvp build is feared, mass amount of dmg from more than 1 elementalist before you can counter it, but the difference is that you can pick your battles with the hydra's and pre plan counters for their skills. Meteor (and meteor storm, and fireball / phoenix) all do fire dmg, you can counter that with a variety of heal on dmg, reduce dmg spells (reversal like mentioned, mantra of flame, shielding hands, healing breeze, etc). It also cause knockdown which you can counter with certain stances (balanced stance), that failing you can interrupt the hydra even before it gets a chance to cast the spell. Once that's done like every caster it has to wait till recharge before casting again so get in there and mash the squishy target.

Ok, that's enough of that. The topic is about Hydras, not about Paine's leetness.

Congratulations on your arrogance over the fact that paper beats rock. Although you can't be that great of a Mesmer if you're complaining about losing to Glint. |

The ones in perdition use Meteor Shower too... very tough in groups. At least with hencies... of course, with actually players it wouldn't be too difficult.

Dragon's Gullet = Northeast of Flame Temple Corridor
You might stumble into Dragon's Gullet by accident when you do the Althea's Ashes quest. |

my w/e axe/earth can kill hydras easily. meteor/fireball does mere 13dmg with 16 -2dmg shield, armor of earth, ward against ele. use balanced stance at start so you can't be knocked down. by the time balance stance is recharged, use it since meteor is coming soon farm hydra anyone? i do it.
oops i should read better. i'm talking about crystal desert hydras. not the earlier ones. Last edited by hellraisin; Jul 12, 2005 at 03:22 AM // 03:22.. |

I can solo 6-7 hydras at once with a good set of aura of restoration, fire attunement, firestorm, fireball, and inferno with my elementalist. I think they might as well have just called them "T-REX" in the game. Are they really much different other than the heads?
Roland, lemme know if you need any help killin them. They are one of my favorites to kill since they're so big |
