The Prima strategy guide
Hello. I am new here so I didn't know where to put this thread but yeah...
What are your opinions on the Prima GW strategy guide? Worth getting? Useless? Thanks! |

I like it. It does have a few things that are wrong since updates and such...but thats to be expected with a game like this.
Only gripe I have with it is that, it says there are tameable lizards in presearing and I went way out of my way to find out that it is a Warthog now instead...very disappointing... |

As someone very new to online gaming, let along Guild Wars, I've found it very helpful. My husband, who is very into all of this, keeps it by the keyboard with bookmarks.

it does contain misprints, but all in all it's useful to turn to while playing.

What about the downloadable version? Are they keeping it up with the updates and do they charge for that?

I did get the E-Guide from a friend and I thought it wasn't worth getting. I believe that all the information you need is on this forum, because the people here are better than guides.

i have the book and i find some parts very useful
1: it has a list of where to get the skills(a few are wrong, but most are right) 2: maps of all missions, and it tells how to get the bonuses 3: it tells where all the collectors are 4: maps of the explorable areas too a couple gripes about it, 1: no fissure, UW maps 2: some of the lists are laid out in a very useless manner 3: there should realy be a code included so we can get online version too, for update reasons 4: any misprints, i spent a long while looking for the mysterious charr with hundred blades |

My advice is to not bother with the downloadable version if you want the guide. Those stupid Adobe Ebooks are full of problems. For instance, it will stop working if you reformat your computer. You can't even move it to a laptop to reference. Just get the bound version =)
Edit: I have the hardcopy version, and I have to say it's quite useful. It guides you through each mission and bonus quite well and the maps and skill listings are useful. It even has quest listings organized by region, which I find helpful. One thing I wish it had is a listing of the skill trainers and what skills they train (IIRC, you can only see the trainer if you look up the skill itself. Not totally sure since I don't have the book with me ATM) Last edited by Kiiron; Jul 13, 2005 at 05:43 AM // 05:43.. |

Ya after paying 20 bucks for it, I do wish they would add online updates for us folks who bought the hard copy, but other than that I've found it pretty helpful.

Goods-
--I beleive it to be best so you can look at all the skills and plan out how and what type of build you are going to make. --You get a general idea of how to get through the different areas. -- Explains to you how to make certain builds. Bads- --Old information. --There are some flaws on the maps via where they are. --And Much more I didn't mention. Overall thought of the book- --Personally I love it. I go to it for reference at least twice a day. Well worth the 20 bucks. |

Yea, it's worth it. The maps are 100 % screwed up though, other than that it's cool. I really donno where they got some skill icons. I think Healing Breeze had an ankh even in the betas. Reckoning, try to memorize all the elite skill listings, maps, armor guides and such from a website? Or is it just easier to check a book?

I've used mine mainly for the bonus missions and mission maps. It's useful, but since it is out of date in some areas, (not to mention most of the content eg: collectors items, elite skill listings etc cam be found online for free) I wouldn't say it's worth the 20 buck value.
