Do they weild Fire Wands, Staffs or both?

Both. Make note that staffs are two-handed so you can't use artifacts/scrolls or any of the sort.

It's Staff OR Wand + Focus Item.

It all depends on what your focusing your build on, and what buffs you find on them at the time.
