Either one can be very good. Personally I'd go with Ranger over warror, because of the energy cost of the ranger skills and the fact that warrors get so very little of it. Plus Expertise is so nice when you get it way up.

R/Mo is a pretty common and useful combination, because rangers tend to be the last surviving party members in difficult PvE situations (because they stay in the back, and have better armor than the other non-warrior classes). They can then use Rebirth (which teleports the resurrected party member to the caster's location) to resurrect the party into a safe place. Most R/Mo's only carry this Monk spell in PvE (instead of a rez signet), and are pure-ranger for the rest, because experience doesn't reduce the cost of spells (and all monk skills are spells).
Another use for R/Mo's is to give extra healing and/or protection to your pet, which it will need later in the game. All pet skills are skills are cheap (energy-wise), so as a beast master you probably will have enough energy for some monk skills (especially if you use Ferocious Strike to generate extra energy). I used to play as a ranger/necro but since i need pretty much all of my attribute points for ranger i switched my secondary to monk just to have infinite res, like the above poster said

I don't know much about R and W combo's, but with an R/Mo you can go pure ranger with a res skill instead of the signet, or you can boost your damage output with Judge's Insight. Some points into Smiting Prayers and the use of Judge's Insight can give all of your attacks 20% armor penetration and turn them into holy damage, which no one can have extra armor against. JI plus Penetrating Attack... that's 40% armor penetration on a holy arrow, quite a armor-killer. Only real drawback I find to using JI is the short duration. A bow grip of enchanting helps out. Plus there are a few monk skills like Essence Bond that are nice to have...

I play as a R/Mo...the only two monk spells I use are Mend and Rebirth.
I find it more usefull than any other secondary...Rangers don't really need a secondary. I played through ascension as a R/W....never used a single warrior skill. |

Yea, I played thru the whole PvE as a R/E trying out different conjure elements. I eventually realized that rangers don't need a 2nd profession, switched to 2nd prof monk for the re-usable ressurect spell. Who needs a 2nd profession anyway, rangers rock by themselves

Shwitz described my character perfectly in his earlier post. My PvE R/Mo skillbar is made up exclusively of Ranger Skills with the exception of Rebirth.
Occasionally, I'll put on Judge's Insight when I want to use Barrage (since it's not compatible with preparations). Best for missions/quests where there are large groups of melee monsters who tend to clump or those pesky undead. |
