Skill Of Capture... do people not understand how it works, or am I missing something? - Guild Wars Forums

Now... I'm not an expert in this game by a long shot... but it bothers me when I see people give out information that is misleading or wrong...

I came here today to look for locations on Elite skills. While perusing the listings I noticed a startling trend in the comments below some of them...

There are people who actually are saying that they believe you need to capture a skill WHILE the boss is using them... ummm, excuse me? I have about 6-7 Elite skills, and every one of them has come from the boss AFTER it's been killed.

Did I miss something?

Maybe I have, so I'll ask this question... are some of the skills only capturable while in use? Since I haven't had that problem, I don't know... I always kill the boss, then capture.

that only changed recently, you used to have to capture as the boss used the skill

well, before a recent patch you had to capture a skill as he was using it, but not anymore

The change was made for monks and stances, primarily.

I got all my elites before that patch... so many hours... CURSES...

But yes. Before you had to wait and sometimes keep bosses alive while you coerced them into casting elite spells. Youd have to cast SoC while they casted or before they casted something else. So it was a limited window of oportunity on some bosses. And with stances you had to pretty much spam SoC since you never see them use it.

Some were a lot harder than others. A few bosses never seemed to cast the elites they had at all. One boss only used it if he had a pet... another only if you gave a condition to enemies around it... and some only if you attacked their comrads...

And god forbid youd get interrupted... ^_^

Lot easier now and less time consuming.

Thanks guys, I hadn't been doing alot of capturing before, so apparently I missed a patch somewhere. I've gotten about 10 elites in the last few weeks over my 4 toons and I got them all after the boss was dead.

I'd spend an hour getting each stance for my warrior and ranger. Back then, not every elite had a known strategy. You people have it easy now. But it was rewarding to be the only player in the group or zone with that elite. Nothing like a little bragging to reward yourself after the wasted hours.
