If you use an expert salvage kit, then depending on public opinion, you have a 50%-80% chance to get it back. So it all comes down to how badly do you need to switch your boots?

Then do it if you like, but you may end up with some crappy crafting materials instead of your pricey rune

I typically get a 50% success rate when dismantling my sets of armour. And, Sod's Law being as it is, the runes which get eaten are, more often than not, the expensive runes I really wanted to keep.
But hey, if you don't want the boots anymore, and the rune didn't do much for you, why not? It would be silly to just have those boots taking up a slot in your inventory if you weren't using them. That rune is going to be completely useless if you just leave it in those boots and never use them. Even if the rune gets eaten, you'll still have some crafting materials to use for your next pair of boots -- even though phenomenally less valuable than the rune, they'll still be more useful than a rune you never used. |
