Default Am I Missing Anything?

I have never joined a guild nor have I ever planned on joining one. I don't PvP nor do I ever really need help with missions/quests anymore. People I come across in game always like to question why I do not join a guild and I always tell them that I have no need for one. The mere thought of organized groups in any game usually turns me off because most seem to be led by little children who either don't know what they are doing or are extremely offensive.

Am I missing anything by flying solo? Would a guild somehow enhance my playing experience?

Simple answer, no.

If you have fun, you are not missing anything. I happen to like our little mini-community we have created. I always like to give away good items I can't use to people I like--but that can be accomplished with a friends' list easily enough. We do unranked GvG, and of course a guild is necessary for that.

I can see how being independent has its appeal though.

I agree that joining a guild is NOT essential for game enjoyment, but also realize that 1/2 of the game is PvP/GvG and as stated by Sofo - can really enhance your enjoyment of the game if you find the right group of people.

The guild I'm with has NO pressure of GvG over PvE and we laugh ALLOT over TeamSpeak. Most times we're not even grouped together, we're just hanging out in the same channel. Offering advice, giving items away to other guildies that can use them, assisting with missions/quests (drops are better with real players versus henchies) and just enjoying each other's company.

It's all a matter of personal preference, if you buddy list works fine for you to keep track of players that you'd like to team up with again, then cool, if you perfer having a larger list of people you can turn to for help a guild works nice. If you are one of those people who like to walk around a game helping out newer or lower level players a guild loves you. If you do this just fine with out a guild good for you, but for some it just takes the time to find the right combo of people. Friendship over an internet connection is supposed to be the point... doesn't matter what aspect of the game brings that friendship together, as long as it is happening.

Lost, I TOTALLY understand you. I very rarely join guilds in games because it seems like there is at least one person there you would rather not associate with. Other games I have played pretty much required you to be in a guild or you would not be able to take part in events. It seems like the main reason most people would join a guild, in other games, was for protection from being PKed. Now, GW is different in that there is no PKing outside of arenas. I have played games where members of guilds would kill members of rival guilds.

Currently I am in a guild, of 2, myself and my girlfriend. Funny enough we even have a hall, (she wanted it, I didn't care). If it wasn't for my girlfriend I probably would not have joined or made a guild. There is one upside to being in a guild that I know of, nobody bothers you about joining a guild or asking you while you're not in one. Otherwise I've always found guilds useless in games like this.

It's a matter of preference, but I prefer to play with others. My own guild is mostly adults, and we use TS even when we're not in HoH/GvG. We have a blast just BSing while we're all playing.

Let me preface this post by saying, I hope I'm not being too repetitive.

With that said, let me address a few things that you have said about your gameplay. Firstly, you said that you don't Pvp. I would address that situation by saying quite frankly that you should probably try to find a different game. Unless of course you're quite content with the PvE and storyline of this game. However, rest assured that there are games that have 20x the storyline and PvE gaming experience than what Guildwars has to offer. The PvE is meerly a preamble to the PvP experience of this game, and at least to my mind and unpleasant neccessity to gain skills/upgrades/etc.

Unfortunantly I'm going to have to concur with your little children comment. Most guilds are lead by immature people who wish only for thier own self-gain while even to the detriment of thier members. Now, I say this with some reserve, because some members, and I would assume this isnt you, would want a guild only to thier own selfgain and even to the detriment of the rest of the guild.

Now, on to your question of missing something. I'm going to preface what I'm about to say with the understanding that we're assuming the guild fits your style of gameplay, and is lead by competant leaders. That being said, the answer is most definantly yes. Guild's create an entirely new environment for gameplay, foremostly in the community of similar intrest players, who can work together for similar goals. Within these situations, friendships, memories, and just overall great times will be created.

Now, if you simply don't like people, well, that's another story and to that I once again ask why you chose guildwars? There's so many better RPGs out there to play for those who enjoy flying solo.

Best of Luck

Hi Lost

I too am in agreement with you about Clans...um Guilds, Hate 'em. But then maybe I'm elitist or "simply don't like people" ?

I assume (from your other posts) that you aren't unsociable :P and that you DO play with other people and enjoy doing so, so wouldn't question why you bought the game in the first place

I did join a community once for another online game, even admin'd with them for a while, but then it became too big and allowed the usual 'My dog's bigger then your dog' clan types into it. However the friends I made there I still play with, and from other online games, both those who became real-life friends and those mysterious online presences I made, still keep in touch. It's possible to be sociable without being in a Guild.

I would ask, however, if you've played in teams of friends in any other online games? I avoided this for years, but when I started it completely changed/refreshed my outlook of those games. PvP randomness might not be great, but I think GvG might be more appealing (although I've not yet tried in GW). For this reason alone I'd recommend joining/creating a Guild.

I currently have a guild of...me. Started mainly to stop people following me around in my first week spamming 'join our guild, you'll be sorry you didn't join a guild' etc. and secondly I want to see what a Guildhall looks like , although at current sigil prices GW2 will be released before I can afford one. But I think not trying this would be missing out on a large part of the game, so I have my Guild, when I'm ready I might start inviting friends...psychological profile forms are in the post.

I hate GvG and Pvp, so I made a guild with me and a few more people. We're all just lazy and easy going, helping each other with stuff. It's fun.

I understand what you're saying, I just hate having to be forced to go on missions and quests, and battles NOT on my time. Which is why I just made my own guild ; /
