Changing servers?
At this point i'm playing on the european servers but thinking about switching to the american servers.
Reason; more players over there + america actually has favor of the gods a few times a week while europe... But what i'm wondering about is, would i be experiencing any lag due to playing on the american server? Or will it be the the same smooth gameplay? And another question to you europeans that changed server; would you say the change is worth it? |

The big thing is you only get 5 switches before you are permenantly assigned to server you last switched to as unfortunately somewhere here found out the hard way as they were switching between Europe where their friends were and American servers when the friends weren't around. Now they are stuck on the American servers and ANet isn't (won't) going to switch his account back to Europe.
Gameplay should be just as smooth but since I haven't played on any European servers, I have no clue as to how smooth they are. I wouldn't suggest playing on the American servers with a min. spec machine as you are more than likely going to run into issues with playing the game at that time. |

Does anyone know why the number of switches was limited to 5?
What are the big balance issues if people keep switching? Is it more about load balancing your server farm? |

The reason you can not switch more than five times is to stop people from just following the favor of the gods. The would just be able to switch to what server has favor everytime.

Good point...forgot about that.
I feel sorry for Europe... the US has a common language, meaning more guilds, meaning better chance of holding favor. I'm half expecting a mass exodus of European players to the US servers... |

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought American servers includes the whole American continent being; USA, Canada, South and Middle America and perhaps Greenland.

I'm Dutch and for some reason, I have less lag then the Americans, and I think you'll have the same as I do. Maybe because the American people connect to something in American and we still log on to something in Europe server, but that somthing America is really busy because of the millions playing there?
And since your English is really good, you can come any time, I hate to German and French people who come to the American Servers and still talk their own language... Stupid RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOs. |
