I agree with swampgirl, if you were to add more races to the game you would more than likely need to add in a whole new storylline - unless of course it was dwarves or Krytans or something else in game that could potentially be carried into the game to be consistant.
As for actually potentially adding something else in future expansions, I absolutely think they should. I agree with many of the people above - have race benefits/disadvantages. I guess I will just go off saying that I liked the whole different race aspect that DAOC had. But I love Guild Wars so and don't necessarily want it to be a copy of another game. So, I will hope for the best and just see what happens I guess.... Shmash! |

You guys are making me laugh. I'm only talking about two people...but seriously...Krytans? You realize they are HUMANS! Thats not a new race...its a different skin color, which I might add, you can already change. You don't have to be a white person in this game...
Anyways, no, keep other races out of this game. Until some strange plot twist causes the Stone Summit to launch a powerful magic spell into the sky that turns all of Ascalon into Dwarves, no. And even then I'd find it stupid. Just because other games have things does not mean this game should. |

The problem with adding racial bonuses "to make it interesting" is as follows: If, to use the most sickening of RPG cliches, elves had some bonus to make them more effective archers, Rangers would be stupid to not pick elf as their race. If humans made better Warriors, anyone with a functioning frontal lobe would make a Human Warrior. Maximizing effectiveness is the smart thing to do if you want to win.
Therefore, having racial bonuses is a terrible idea in a competitive game. The corollary to this is that having different races is also pointless, since they do nothing other than look different, waste hard drive space, and cause ArenaNet's art people to spend their entire paychecks on Maalox. You may be thinking, "BUT BATS, WUT ABOUT TEH 1%K ARMOR THNE NOOB!!!!!!!!!11111eleven," and I will respond with the obvious fact that making an entire race is exponentially more work than making a new skin for an existing model, or modifying an existing model slightly for another armor design. Races = bad idea. Professions for the win. Stop trying to turn a strategy game into Dress-Up Barbie. |

It always seems that when a new game comes along that right away the requests for features other games have begins. It's no wonder most games seem all alike. I like the fact that GW took their own path and I see no need to copy the other games (that apparently most of us are tired of because they are the way they are). Let's end the EQ clone habit.

if any of ever read anything on the gw website they have always said they will probably have more races/classes as the expansions come out, and you people talk about stuff just being eye candy???? why is it the price of black dye went up so much?, or the reason a crappy dragonblade was worth 3k the first couple months?, most of the gw population desires eyecandy, and another thing, elves and dwarves were around in things long before EQ and WoW were ever thought of, so dont say GW would be copying them, because they certainly didnt invent them.

i don't think that new races would have any extra abilities over or above humans.
any new race, i think, will simply be the dominent race on Cantha (or wherever Chapter 2 is set) and will really just provide different models for people to look at. i would be happy if you could play as the other intelligent races (like dwarves, centaurs and Tengu) however any race with a special ability would be a nono... so no Mursaat. that would please me. if they want to add new races. not that it needs it. |

Just my opinion....but I don't see it as a problem if we have races that have the same models as things already in the game. There are already dwarven models, charr models (although they a little on the large side, advantage + disadvantage), Mursaat (which are some of the more unique creatures I've seen) Undead, and you could even differentiate between human races (Krytans and Ascalonians).
As I think about it, you could make the racial parts of the race have something very basic...possibly good in many situations, but bad in others. I understand the consequences, but for example: Charr size. Charr are bigger than other races...easier to hit, however can more easily body-block targets too. Honestly, they could even have a slight modifier to hp too. Yes, so far this makes them better for Warriors, but the hp increase would be good for anyone. Also, weapons with +20% damage mods to Charr would suddenly be useful again (a creative way to more quickly take down someone on your off-hand) |

small note here, the problem with having charr, and undead as usable characters is it wouldn't really fit in with the current story. like an invading race walking around in ascalon city before the wars been won?
and yes, i understand they could possibly add in a story to compensate for this, different starting locations, but alot of work for just eye candy. Yeah i reckon it would be awesome to be able to invade charr country a little bit |

The one race I would love to see if Charr. This would be great for PvP, also it could be used to offer access to other areas of Pre-searing, as well as a way of offering differant ways to play the game. Hell I would love to be one of the Charr chasing players down in the Great Wall mission. |

But as for your point about racial bonuses, I can definetely understand your point. In a lot of games, the racial bonuses are made so that one certain class inherently benefits from playing as that race. However, it is possible to make it so that every race has a different bonus for every class. For example, right now every class has their own unique primary attribute (Warriors: Strenght, Monks: Divine Prayers, Elementalists: Energy Storage, etc.) so one could view that as being the human player's bonus. Different races could have different primary unique class attributes that still give them some degree of power, but don't make one class the obvious choice for that race. Quote:
