WHat's the 'Gold Value' rating on the sword? Bit of luck you may be able to sell it to a merchant for a bit of gold.

I've had that happen to me a couple of times before with gold items. It's happened a load of times with purples too. I just salvaged them every time, like i do with almost any weapon i pick up, no big deal really...

Rare can be like that. For example if a char dropped a weapon thats several levels above it's standard drop, then it would be gold. It could have crappy stats, but still be gold. Rare is based upon the level of the creature dropping it, not the stats on the item.

This is a gold item, without mods, any mods at all I get lots of purples without mods, only added value i can think of is that they probably have a higher chance of giving rae crafting materials when salvaging. Or at least by my observation |

Had the same happen to me countless times. Fact is, MOST of the golds I get are crap and merchant-worthy. Best you can do is as stated above: expert salvage (won't necessarily yield rare crafting materials, but ya might get lucky), sell to a merchant for a few gold, or slap on some upgrades and sell to another player.
Sucks, but what can you do? |

Ah ok, let me clarify: I make a distinction only between "unidentified" (un-id, as I called it in my previous post) and "identified", all items that have never been "unidentified" are (at least IMHO) therefore indentified. To state this again in another way: All items who never had or no longer have "unidentified" on them are (in my opinion/by my definition) thus "identified". |

Don't sell it to a merchant!! You could make a lot more money from it if you find some good mods and put them on it. The price jump from a purple weapon with mods to a gold weapon with mods is crazy on the market. So if you can get some good mods on it, you could sell it for a very decent amount. Not sure what it is, but people like gold weapons regardless of their stats. I think it's kinda dumb if ya ask me. I'd never pay through the nose for a gold weapon, but lots of people will.

Its not even max dmg so putting good mods on it would really waste some mods.

Dargon has explained why its gold & crap: it's better than the other weapons in the low-level area where you found it.
Purple & gold is relative to the average weapons of the area. |
