I just created a new character, he's a ranger. Are there any other Rangers out there? If so, which creature would you say makes the best pet? Thanks!!

Many believe it is the Underworld spider, but i feel depends on what you feel fits you the best.. for example i like the stalkers so i keep a stalker... However as stated above many will tell you its the spider

Someone did an investigation some while ago, and found out that the UW spider (black widow) did the most damage and also had the greatest chance of doing critical hits. So i believe the black widow is the best pet.

The moa bird is the best pet if you want to have it killed first. This bird is so annoying and makes so much noise, i go straight for the bird and kill it 1st. Anything to shut this bird up.

It all depends on the pets evolution. People think Widows do the most damage because it's in the Elder form already. Any pet can get to Elder form depending on how it's raised.
Other than that, beside's damage type, all pets are equal. |

Well, I have dumped my spiders today. The main reason being, to use them properly, you need to use a minimum of 3 skill slots on your bar (37.5%) ... Charm Animal, Comfort Animal, and Call of Protection. That is only to keep them alive. You want interrupts? Well, there you go, a couple more slots down the drain. In addition, they don't get affected by party spells, don't get resurrected with the party in PvE scenarios, and last but not least you cannot assign a numeric key to select your pet (as you would be able to do for party members).
Oh, and definitely no poisoning ... |

All pets are about the same - they do about the same damage, have about the same attack speed and have same Armor Level. Every pet can and does go down an "evolution" path which will adjust their base health & damage - this is why most people think Elder Black Widow's are the best, because they are on the Elder evolution which is the best evolution of the lot. However, as has been stated, every pet can reach Elder evolution.
In fact I'd say any pet apart from Spider is best simply because the spider has piercing damage, which is the same type of damage as you do with your bow! Better off getting a pet which does a different damage type - ie Boars do Blunt damage. There is no real "best" pet; it's all based on personal likes. The different pets have varying life, damage, attacks (I've seen a pet bear use mauling >.>), etc. If there's a said "best," you can assume it would be the lvl 15 Elder Wolf. PvP defaults a wolf, so it's probably the most rounded option.
I use a spider, and it's no different than the multitude of pets I had prior to it's acquisition. :\ |
