Ok, so I finally went out and tested this with a group. I see what you mean, but I don't understand why its not in any patch notes or why they haven't said anything about it at all.
So...I guess I'm not going to be the first to open a chest anymore, so that I can see whether I'll get a horrible purple or a decent gold... |

at least, i think so. also, it probably was meant to stop the section of the fanbase that spends their time whining that they don't get the "uber-pwnage" weapons that they seem to see all around them. except...it didn't. just look at this thread.... i like this new system, even though i haven't seen a shiverpeak chest in the longest time. seems that they've dissapeared from grenth's footprint..... |

Im glad I noticed something that helps anyone (not opening first to ensure gold) and as I said I dont claim to be the first to have noticed, but I have changed some peoples minds reading this post and thats what posting was intended to do. I never open chests first now and that means I get more gold items than ever before and makes farming worthwhile. I dont know why the update didnt mention this but there you go.
cant wait to see the red items wonder what they will be like and that will encourage more people to use more characters in the game that can only add to experience and respect for other classes. |

Keys n' stuff

I started a little tank a week or two back and am currently working on ascension with her. 2 other buddies did the same with new char's as well - Ele and a R. In the last 2 weeks we have probably opened a number of chests and picked up 75% gold items with either close to near perfect mods or Perfect mods! A number of very Very nice sundering and Vampiric bows last night even while doing the Villany run, and after a few runs in the jungle with at least 5 chests of all goldies between the wilds and bloodstone. The keys were annoying at first and I too have run into what ~Sent said earlier - I never go without a key because I could be looking at my next perfect Barbed Sephis Axe of Warding (mine currently is 2pts off perfect dmg 6-26) , or a number of other items that I have gotten on drops. Currently I need to get my little tank into the furnace and the islands becuz my Magmus shield is nice but getting a dual -X while stance or hex or something would be nice (my little Magmus shield is great with the 2 mods its got). Key are good... and yes they may be a gold sink but its nice to add a little gamble in every once in a while that doesn't mean going blow for blow 1 on 1 with a boss or something while soloing... less chance of a DP if you actually come down to synchronizing your skill usage... (though I am learning more and more about soloing every day Anyhow thats my bit! |

I dont know. the FoW chests seem to be pretty good. My first experience with those chests cuz i prefer UW but starting to like FoW for the chests. Lots of the members of my group had keys. I didnt but 1 cuz for 1.5k yeah rite. They opened it and all got golds. Choas axe i know was 1. others and others. And then a key drops for me. So i run back and open it. Sure enough a gold max hammer with some upgrades that i cant remember. Ill have to try those chests again.

It may be worth trying a running build to hunt down some chests in FOW or UW. I know its possible but it will then be down to luck if you get purple or gold and you could die real quick if not careful but its better than standing around shouting for a party when Europe has favour mind you

Everything earlier than shiverpeaks is pretty much a waste. Sometimes you get elonian key drops from griffon farming, and after a while of getting crap I started just selling those keys back. The only keys I would actively buy would be for UW of FoW, since you have a pretty high chance of getting something that you will like/something that is sellable for decent cash. Whenever I go to either I usually stock up about 2-3 keys.

Um, I'd buy miner's keys too. I have a set of bows that are req 8 and 9 which have +15%dmg for stance, enchanted, >50 and always (-5 energy) that i got from Miner's.

I've had keys drop like galore, but it still doesn't justify what I get out the chests, the best I've ever netted was a major vigor rune. I say if they drop, just sell to em to PC's under the price it takes to buy em, and you got a legit business, none of this "Poke and see" chance unlocking chests.
My 2 Cents. --The Shim |

Wood planks. I used that superior salvage on a bunch of gold and purple items -- with decent mods, too -- and got wood planks for every single one. Tried it with the expert kit and kept getting upgrades. USELESS, I say. |

I abhor that statement! I absolutely adore my superior kit, it's never failed me once, and always gives me the highest returns possible!
With everything, salvaging is still a % chance you'll get what you're after. Get ready to get hit with wood planks or ingots when you go to salvage that bow or sword, it's all probability my friend. I <3 My Sup Salv kit, made 4 plat <negating the 2 spent on it> for a profit of 2 plat and extra materials I used for my own armor on alts. Imho, Sup Kits rock, and I don't gotta worry bout replacing em for a bit, unless you're a salvag-a-holic, or an Ident-a-freak. My 2 Cents. --The Shim |
