I have made over 70k on chests. The only people who could possibly compare these chests to slot machines are those who compulsively buy 10+ keys and then sell everything that they didn't think was magnificent back to the trader. These people were probably already idiotic "BIG MONEY BIG MONEY IM GONNA WIN!" addicts to fortune in the first place and it's no suprise that they waste their "life savings" on something equally as trivial in fiction, too. When I first opened a chest I had 6k gold. By the end of the night I had 70+k. It wasn't luck that got me 64k: It was my ability to buy a key for 600 gold, open a chest, find a Gold Max Damage Weapon (Which Gold weapons and armor are the ONLY things that drop from chests in the Southern Shiverpeaks) or a Superior Vigor/Monk/Ele Rune and eithe sell that weapon back for 600 gold to buy a new key or sell that rune for 6-40k. That's how you make money. You charge a cheap price for high end items. You got it basically for free, you give it away basically for free. This is going to sound very blunt, but those who are too dumb to know how to keep some of their money stashed away, to not be fussy about sell-back prices and ABOVE ALL ELSE realise that money isn't very important at all in this game shouldn't and DO NOT need it. |

If you managed to get all gold drops for you, then you're one heck of a lucky person. My last 4 Shiverpeak chests were all purples, and quite frankly, I've yet to see anyone willing to buy a purple for any price above merchant value. So no, golds are not the only things that drop from chests in Southern Shiverpeaks.
It still boils down to the same thing no matter what - if you're lucky, like Sagius, even if you don't do anything, you'll get wealthy. If you're a normal person, or even say unlucky like me, this is simply a loss-making venture no matter how you look at it. |

sorrows furnace chests trick
I tried to search for this topic but found nothing...and I know I cant be the only one who has noticed this.
I just wanted to ask if anyone else has noticed the following inside sorrows... If 1st person gets a purple from chest then you all do If 1st gets a gold from chest you all do I dont open a chest if the first person gets purple, I just wait for a gold. This has worked for me many times and although the drops are random I ALWAYS get gold once the first person does, and I ALWAYS get purple if the first person does. Ive been doing this for weeks now and it never fails and Ive been giving away gold items to my guild frequently. Now I know some ppl are going to start with the 'its a random drop you idiot' but try it first then let me know Im right. Try it before posting and telling me Im wrong like some ppl in the game.... just open the chest see if you all get the same colour all the time then make your own mind up. Yes, it's like Battle Torn says. For anyone who says opposite, try doing Orozar for weeks. That teaches you a lot of stuff you didn't know before.

First off if your going to do chest hunting I suggest you do it in sorrows furnace. Within one day I got 2 req 8 gold chaos axes and a req 9. I sold the req 8's un'id for 90K each and the req 9 for 70K.
Shiverpeak chests tend to drop a lot of purples and you end up throwing your money away. If you do decided to do it I suggest doing in the port sledge area and doing it. |

I must be one of the lucky ones with the chests as I collected a gold hammer with the following stats in the ice caves mission
Max Damage Hammer +20% on enchantments Vampiric +5 health Steal - 1 health One of the best PVP weapons I have found also I Have found a near perfect chaos sundering axe and over 6 superior runes and I seem to get keys dropped buy monsters more often than gold items dont figure maybe I was born under a lucky star Wolvine |

I have gotten golds once others have gotten puple and I have gotten purples after others have gotten gold, however, it does usually work like Battle Torn and others have stated.

I usually see it that 6/8 of the people in the group get a purple, and 2 get golds, but lately its been more 50/50...so I actually buy keys more now because they seemed to have increased the chance of getting rares from them...though I did waste 6k on keys and got absolutely nothing good with all of them...mostly rares, but horrible mods...

If this is something new then say so, because I have NEVER in my entire playing seen this with the new key chests. NEVER EVER. I know they upped rares in that one patch, but nope...still never seen this. I'm just posting what I've seen, you can't argue with me that I didn't see it...
Granted, I have not played with anyone in game, but henchmen for the past week, so if something was changed recently I probably wouldn't know... Anways, looked at the patch notes... Update - Thursday, September 22 Fixed problems with random positioning of locked chests. Improved distribution of rare items in locked chests so that most players will get more rare items. I guess that could have done it, but I have played with groups since then and have not noticed what you are describing, and typically with groups, we make a big spectacle out of opening the chests, you can also read what they pick up, and no...not once have I been in a group and the whole group got either rares or purples. I have noticed more people getting rares from chests since the first introduction of chests, but not in the way you are saying. Last edited by Vilaptca; Oct 13, 2005 at 09:12 PM // 21:12.. I must admit from experience last night that first item from the chest is usually the colour from that chest i.e. purple means mostly purple and gold means mostly gold items as my group last night got 6 gold items form i chest outside augry rock

the reason the keys are so high is cause just like everything else. NO ONE is selling them back to NPCs. And because the chests are getting farmed to DEATH the drop quality is falling... Sooner or later people will STOP that and it will balance out again. 90% of the chests in shiver peeks are farmed out for most players. only dropping purple items at best... luckily I don't farm much so I still get a good drop on occasion,
We still see a gold drop on occasion in magmua too. go figure... Keys will come down when people start selling them back to NPCs, just like Dyes and Runes do. Same with Superior Salvage and ID kits. right now they are too high for value. its cheaper to get Expert kits for same number of uses... just uses more slots is all... I personally think the kits should be fixed prices. not market driven... but that's me... kits are different from keys... they are generally not abused. they are used and NEVER sold back, and I don't think I have ever seen one drop anywhere.... so that didn't make a lot of since to me... Keys do drop though thus market commodity. Remember the Keys were made to force a penalty for people doing chest farming. This was to discourage this kind of behavior. and ensure a drop for those willing to get a key for the area. (that was the other complaint, chests that didn't drop anything for people in a group) Also remember the definition of RARE??? that means not everyone has one right? sheesh... If they made it easy to get, it wouldn't be RARE would it? Wait till you see the RED UNIQUE class they are looking into. That means 1 per account, never to be found again by that player. period!!! Its a lot like a PvP item, in that it will not even go into a trade window. so its not sellable either. Last edited by =HT=Ingram; Oct 14, 2005 at 01:04 PM // 13:04.. |

A few things, I'm not discounting what people are saying they're seeing but rather stating fact from my own experience:
1. Group of 8 going thru Fire Island missions, one person opens chest and gets a purple..........ALL remaining 7 party members as well get PURPLE. 2. No possible way someone uses 6 keys, gets 6 purple items be them armour or weapons and only gets a return of 155g(ooops just reread that post...he said 155K , unless they're all armours - minor runes that the player then salvages and sells to trader for 25g each!! Why do that when selling the armour with rune id'd for 100+ gold every time?? I too have spent plenty of money on keys in the hopes of getting a nice drop, primarily a gold armour for a Sup Vig type loot and the balance of what you spend versus what you may reap....WAY off. Ex: In this case I'm using the merchants pricing as comparison rather than what I may be able to get from another player because that's purely speculative. So I get a gold fire wand, max dmg which after being ID'd only has +5 nrg while health is +50%. Next I get a gold Mursaat hammer, mx dmg, dmg+15% while health is +50%, and health +28. The hammer is still mod-able one time as is or to replace the mods it has. Merchant price on the Wand is 468g Merchat price on Hammer 280g Don't know bout anyone else out there, but from in-game experience with selling/buying that Hammer with the stats it has and the ability to upgrade the health to perfect AND add another mod on top of what it's base is....would make this weapon easily 10x more valuable than an un-modifiable wand<---regardless of the +5 nrg. |
