So then wouldn't it be +17 vs. Physical damage, but +10 vs. everything else? |

you guys are morons. whens the last time you saw +5 armor save you from poison or conjure phantasm.
Edit: i see a couple people beat me too it, and then theres the fact that I like +5 armor better, because it certainly helps me more than +30 health against 24 griffons. |

cpage01, see page 01. It's already been spelled out, armor protects vs normal attacks, health can be better for DoT. The advantage slightly goes to Defense, but as Warriors and Rangers already have higher defense, a health mod would be beneficial too.
thesecondrei, there is no Staff Head of Defense. Health is the only mod that goes on both heads and wrappings (the Hale and the Fortitude, respectively.) As an aside, I feel so stupid for ever selling my Sword Pommel of Defense to the trader. Nobody would buy the upgrades I had, most were bad anyway, but I dismissed the Defense too. /sigh |

having read the above posts about warrior and rangers with high armor not really benefiting as much from the +5 base defense upgrades, would a +7 vs. elemental damage be a good choice to protect against that damage that ignores regular armor?

2 major things left out:
1 the rehealing effect of a health mod 2 the amount of armor ignoring damage going on in arenas these days |

I think for a ranger, a +7 shelter would be the better bet. Giving them a grand total of 77AL vs. Physical and 100AL vs. [all] Elemental. ...Or you could sacrifice the 2 extra from the shelter, and just get the defense +5, giving you 75AL vs. Physical and 105AL vs. Elemental. Think about it like this - Shelter/Warding gives a +7AL and Defense effectively giving you +10AL - but divided between Phys./Ele. Of course these are max numbers. Also, as far as I know, there is no type of attack that "ignores" armor (except the few that add +xx damage, I believe). Some attacks have armor penetration, and holy damage treats armor levels greater than 60AL as 60AL (I believe, correct me if I'm wrong). However, I believe elemental damage is a stronger form of attack than slashing/blunt/peircing - to which I have no idea, and I would appreciate if someone could shed some light on this. Ensign, perhaps? Possibly it is just because some armors are weaker to elemental attacks than others...? All warrior armor, for example. It's too early here right now and my brain isn't functioning at full capacity yet, so could someone set me straight on that? Last edited by id0l; Sep 13, 2005 at 11:24 AM // 11:24.. |

Except poison, if you want to get technical. That would be a bow attack/preparation. Last edited by id0l; Sep 14, 2005 at 01:00 PM // 13:00.. |
