Something I do to attract people in my guild is to go on quest in Lion's Arch with 3 other guild members. Then, it takes a while but I spot players looking for help who are not in guild yet. While you are doing the quest, your leadership combined with the sight of the capes will excite the two new players in being part of your guild.
This way of doing is a lot more worthy than blankly ask people to join (Think of your reaction when tele-marketters call you at home to sell carpet cleaner). As for reasonnable players, if you want to have loyal guild member, first, don't be pushy with them. 2nd, Some might need time to think about it. 3rd, You can also add as your guild requirement to have the future guild member to pay for their enrolment (small fee, maybe the 100gp now required to invite a player). If they are excited about your guild, they will pay. Hope this will help you out. |

Make friends. Takes awhile, but least you might have decent and dependable players in your guild.
Hunting down members feels longer anyways |

We have never actively recruited, ever. We just grew out of a few RL friends at the beginning.
One of our members was found while an officer was giving stuff away in Ascalon. He was so appreciative and like-minded, they ended up talking a long time. Eventually he became an officer too. He had a friend, so he came on board also. We help guildies a lot in missions, and the random people we get to fill out the group are pretty impressed when they see a guild that helps each other, and then they ask to join us. If we liked them during the mission, then they get the invite. I'm sorry I don't have any advice about recruiting/retaining members for heavy PvP guilds. We are very casual in that regard, we are not looking for uberleet players, just nice cooperative fun ones. |

One of my followup posts has some information on a way to recruit. Some here have responded with some good suggestions as well. |

i recruit brand-new players out of pre-searing. that way all thier in game attatchements will be to my guild and the players in my guild. afterall, what motivation does a lvl 7 hoh player with 50k faction, 10 mil exp between thier chars, 3 accounts and a net worth of 50 million gold have to stay in my guild? answer: none the seccond your guild loses rank, or they dont get thier way, they leave. but when all they know in the guild wars universe are your guild members then leaving it means they are on thier own for the first time since they opened the box. it instills loyalty, and you enjoy the company of your guild members more if you grew as a player with them. i cannot recall a more exciting moment for my guild than coming up with the 30 od thousand for our sigil; it was a big moment for everyone; and things like that are mundane details for veteran players. |

I prefer having a small guild than a large one. But sometimes if people don't come as often as you like, it kind of gets lonely.
I view a guild as a online game family. You help each other, make fun of each other, if someone is needy, you give things to them. If you have a trustworthy group of people, I wouldn't spend time worrying about trying to recruit others so soon. Just play, make friends. |

while i have bought droks for every one of my members for thier very first char, i do not advertise this fact when recruiting someone; the kind of member that EXPECTS free items is not the kind of member im looking for. |

Recruiting decent people???
There is only one way of doing it and it???s not in game, I haven???t heard once from a decent player that he just joined a guild because he liked the sales pitch he saw going by in the chat channel in Lions Arch or anywhere else for that matter. The best suggestion I can give you, go read the Looking for group thread, pick the ones you like, send them a little pm and try to get together in game with them. Once this is all done if you like the person, you can try and recruit them, you will probably get much better results that way, than spamming in L. A. that you have a nice guild looking for people. Just my 2 cents. Unik |

I'm an officer in my guild, and I for one think it's cheesy to standing around spamming random guild invites. Finding random groups in low level areas or offering to help on quests when you see someone asking for help can really work out good because you get the opportunity to know the people first. Alot of players that are currently in guilds are actively looking for a new guild, but just dont like all the spam (telemarketer) invites, because most of those guilds doing that are poor quality. We invited a young person in our guild last week and we are still feeling him out. I was standing in Yaks Bend and he whispered me to find out if we are recruiting. I talked it out with our guild leader and the other officers and we decided to give him a chance. Most of the players in our guild are older so I'm not sure how he will fit in, but I dont like to judge people based on there age but rather on there attitude and willingness to learn. He's only 13 years old, and a little eager to run into battle, but so far he seems nice enough, so I will try and give him some tips to play well and teach him to be patient. It's like any other kind of training, you cant expect people to be good over night.
Here's a quick list on the 10 laws of people that you might want to review so you can sharpen your people skills. 1) The #1 fear of all people is rejection. 2) The #1 need of all people is acceptance. 3) To manage people effectivly you must do it in a way that protects or enhances there self-esteem. 4) Everybody approaches every situation with some concern about "Whats in it for me?" 5) Everybody prefers to talk about things that are important to them personally. 6) People hear and incorporate only what they understand. 7) People like, trust, and believe those that like them. 8) People often do things other than the apparent reasons. 9) Even people of quality can be and often are peaty and small. 10) Everyone wears a social mask. You must look beyond the mask to see the person. |
