Important Question
I was just wondering if guild wars uses cds or dvds because my computer can't handle dvds. Also i was wandering how many discs it has because most of the time my computer stuffs up and freezes when there is more than one disc.

As far as I know, the client come in cds.
But dont worry about it, you can download the client software from the official guild wars site and play it without any cd/dvd drive. All you need is a cd key to create an account. |

If I remember correctly, it uses 1 or 0 CD's, depending on how you install it.
I don't think many games would be distributed on DVD's, because DVD drives are not yet such a standard thing on home PC's. You don't have to have any CD to install the game, just an internet connection and a level of patience inversely proportional to your internet download speed. |

After that..everytime u got to a new map(Ascalon City->Lake side county) and so on..the game iwll DOWNLOAD that entire map. I had no probs coz am on 512kbps...however, u mite find the waiting time trying if ur on dialup.. PS: This hurts the most when ur in a party and going for a hunt..by the time uve finished downloading the map ur heding into..ur party mite have tired of waiting..wouldve reformed or regrouped..happnd 2 me once or twice..now..I just GO into the map 2 download the chapter..come back and party..more ofa nuisance really!! |

The use of a CD to install the game is not required. As stated previously the client can be downloaded from the GW website. Balrog is correct in that downloading the client doesn't download everything, it just gives you what you need as you need it. Using the CD to install reduces this and you'll only have to download updates. (Quite a few of those though)
Since you expressed some concern about the stability of your computer a CD install is probably a good way to go. Recovery will be easier if it crashes. Be aware that the entire game will take up a good chunk of your hard drive. If your tight for HD space you want to consider uninstalling programs you no longer use and doing a general cleanup. All of the files and stuff will take up about a Gigabyte of space (Possibly more I haven't checked lately). Make sure you have lots of space available. |

The game client is available for download. Just visit the guildwars.com site and follow the links, it's pretty easy. If you choose to buy the discs instead, it will come on 2 CD's. Oh, and there's no difference in the software whether DL'd or CD'd. Each time you visit a new zone it will download the map. A.Net designed the software that way. Streaming info is a great way to keep the servers up and running 24/7 even through patches.
