Just started the game - lvl10 with dozens of questions
Firstly, i need to know about an elementalist's weapon. I was told that it is not important to get a max dmg wand/staff because you're basically casting all the time (like..duh?), so now I have a dmg7-10 (req. 3 fire magic) wand with a pretty cool focus item which i forgot its stats and don't wish to bother to check now. I don't really get what the stuff in the brackets meant (as in "req. 3 fire magic etc...") I initially thought req. meant requirement but i realized i could wield a Furious Battleaxe of Charr slaying if i want which is kindof weird. Right now, i found a 7-11dmg bone staff that has basically almost no focus abilites on it at all. Which would be more useful to me? Especially since I'm a nuker ele and also a blood necro, will it affect my max dmg when spell casting?
Secondly, as an ele, should i just get the ele armor set and be gone with it? Or should i upgrade myself to a hydromancer/pyromancer set? Is it suitable to be wearing a pyromancer set if I'm a pyromancer myself? Ok, that's about it, lots of questions hope some of you might be able to answer them. Thanks! |

Your weapon will not affect the damage of your spells (except indirectly through a modifier on your maximum energy pool), feel free to wield whatever weapon/focus combination you wish. Many Elementalists find +enchantment duration modifiers handy, so you might want a staff. However, many Elementalists like very, very large energy pools, so the +energy wands might be more suited to your liking. It's totally up to you.
Your Elementalist armor suit is basically the same across all elements, aside from the element you wish to be defended against more than others. I suggest only buying two suits of armor: the 30AL set available at Ascalon and the 60AL set available to you at Droknar's Forge. You can outfit yourself with cheap collectors armors as you progress through the game and save your gold for the Drok set and skills. Wear whatever armor you want defense against (or what you find more attractive). It doesn't matter what kind of Elementalist you are with regard to your armor choice. I hope you enjoy your Elementalist. cmb |

That's cool thanks. I've done a bit of extra light reading and found some pretty nice curses i could use as combinations (especially Mark of Pain+Insidious Parasite+Price of Failure) All at once could deal good dmg, heals for caster, and dmg again when opponent misses. I find i like curses that heal the caster very much. Blood magic doesn't seem to work well in the long run because a few good ones are just a bunch of sacrificing health. (Necros are the worst in sparing health for sacrificing). Of course this combination is only for pvp. I try to make strategies that allow me to deal massive dmg at one time to alot of people at a time. This requires me to have warriors at hand though as like a sheepdog for herding everyone in one spot. Alright I'm going too much into this, thanks for the help though!

As for weapon requirements, although you can equip any weapon, if you dont meet the req, you will not get the stated damage - but if you dont plan on using your default attack [space] then it really doesnt matter.

Dont forget about Well Of Power, the single best well in the game. Anything that restores energy and health must be great. I am an E/N and I use but 3 necro spells to defend myself with, or help others... Well of power, life siphon, and life transfer(if not using well of power). As an elem I use a staff +15 energy, my energy storage is at max, and the staff I have improves casting speed and skill recharge of fire skills... Its important that whatever staff you choose benefits your spells to the max. You also have to decide if you will be a pyro or a nuker. Burning offers extended damage while nuker offers high damage up front. Cursing can be good too. Some curses cause enemies to hurt themselves and those around them. Dont try to spread yourself out over more than 3 skill groups. I.E, fire, energy, and blood. Anymore than that and you will lose power where you might need it most. When you come post let me know, Ive got some great e/n farming spots where you can go alone at most levels.

For the weapons: you don't really "need" the requirement to wear the item, but it won't work at full efficiency unless you have it. For every character, you should try to get a max damage weapon, but the enchants / upgrades are much more important to a caster. Don't invest too much in a non-max damage weapon, though, as you will most likely want to replace it for a max damage one day or another.
