What do you think to Guild Wars?
Hello
I'm thinking about buying guild wars and was just wondering what people thought about it... I like the look of it but I'm a bit concerned that it seems to focus around playing in groups? Is that true? My personal circumstances are such that the majority of my game playing time is early in the morning when there are not many people around to group with? Will that be a problem do you think? I've heard you can get NPCs to help you, but are they any good? Thanks in advance - any thoughts would be greatly appreciated |

Well here at Guild Wars guru, we all think Guild Wars sucks, unanimously [/sarcasm]
Sorry, but ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. If your hardware can handle it, get it. Although if you have cash to spend monthly, I suggest WoW, if not for the gameplay for the community. As you can see, the recent updates have sparked controversy, but they seem to be back to normal now. Basically, if you don't mind the game being edited periodically, get it. |

Guild wars is mostly party play, yes. I would suggest finding the 10 hour free trial promotion, downloading the client, and giving it a shot. If you like it, you'll more than likely get your money's worth if you purchase it. If you don't like it, then you can be happy knowing you got a chance to test the game without it costing you anything. Even if you do buy it and it doesn't hold your interest for long, you'll more than likely get your money's worth before you quit.
If your playing hours are completely off when there are many people on, you can consider switching to Europe or American servers (depending where you started) for the time difference. If you do that, however, just know that you can only switch so many times before you get stuck, so you'd have to pick one region and stick with it. If you don't want to switch, you can always party with the AI when there aren't enough players around. While they're not the best, they are starting to outsmart most of the players you will ever play with. |

I'd suggest giving it a go.
You can get some great people to group with, and you can get some rubbish ones. I personally seem to attract the rubbish ones, so I tend to group with only the npcs or my guildmates (whom I know from another game). I also have my boyfriend and a couple of international online friends who I will play with. Plus as Jczech says, you can choose your server to match. If you're in the usa but usually play at an 'odd' time, then maybe playing on the european servers will suit you better as far as available people go. Also, as it's free after purchase, if you find it doesn't hold your interest that much, you can always leave it for a month or so and come back to it with a renewed interest. If you enjoy making cool character builds that can be used effectively against the enemy, you should love this game. If you like getting 'uber items and levels' you may not be so keen. |

It is not bad. Some ppl here may still rant due to the recent update. For me, if you are playing other class than elementalist, i think you are not effected much by the recent update. But, farming is sort of not encouraged in this game. If you like PvP, then this is the game you MUST get. Moreover, this game dun require much of grinding.

I find that no matter what time you play there'll always be enough people to party with, and failing that there's always the henchmen, and as much as we like to critcise them they are good enough for completing all but the hardest missions.

agree. For me, the AI of the henchmen are quite good. Can i say they are the best among any artifical henchmen in any RPG games? (other games than Guild wars)

Here's my go.
I love guild wars, and have been addicted to WoW and EQ1/2, As I'm a MMORPG freak. So overall, Guild Wars is unique with its own storyline, the AI henchmen are perfect if you don't wanna wait to get a party, farming, although downgraded since the last patch, is still do-able. Overall, guild wars offers a unique side to other MMO's out there, as it also doesn't require a monthly fee. <This is from my perspective, remember people> Imho, it's better then Eq1/2 and WoW, I've found infinitely better people to play with here on Guild Wars, and even if you've beaten the game, you can dual class another one, learn them skills all over again, so the replay value is good, although not great because in fact, they are the same missions, and areas. It still is fun all around; I would recommend what has already been recommended: Trial. Try it out first, if you like the trial, you definitely will love the game and worth spending 45 bucks on it. My 2 Cents --The Shim |

Thanks for your replies I like the sound of the 10 day trial, but has anyone any idea how you get it? I've looked through the Guild Wars site and can't find any mention of it. Think I'd like to give it a go - even if it's just something to play when WoW is down/laggy
Thanks again |

It's here but my of been actually restricted (fixed) to actually check to see if you bought a new ATI video card.
http://buy.ati.com/myprofile/gw_index.asp?AIB=HIS I really enjoy the game, I manged to quit FFXI (2 years) and love GW. I also do the random player groups to so stuff or you can grab npc's for most (but not all) of the quests / missions. What I really like is what others have stated, you can put the game down for a month and come back to it latter. Last edited by EternalTempest; Nov 12, 2005 at 04:16 PM // 16:16.. |
