A few questions
1. How do weapon mods work? Can I apply them to purple and gold weapons? Can they be replaced or taken off?
2. How do runes work, do you have to drag them onto your armor or something? Can they be taken off or replaced? 3. Where can I buy higher level armors, like platemail, knight, and barbarian sets? |

1) You apply them to any weapon. They can be replaced. The only way to remove a mod from a weapon is to use an expert salvage kit on it. You are not guranteed to get the mod back.
2) Same way dye and mods work. Double click on the dye and click on the armor piece. Runes can be replaced. You can try to get them back using an expert salvage kit but success is not guaranteed. 3) Droknar's Forge has the highest level armor. Anything beyond that is purely aesthetics. If you cannot afford the armor, you probably don't need it. |

Weapon mods can be applied to any weapon (except collectors items - I think). Ones that you put on, you have a CHANCE to get off using an Expert Salvage Kit, but it is not guaranteed.
You double-click on a rune to apply it to a piece of armor (one rune per piece of armor). Runes do not stack. In other words, you cannot apply two minor runes of axe mastery to separate pieces of armor to add +2 to your attribute; only one works. Also, it's a good idea, if you want to switch between different builds--eg, Axe vs Hammer vs Sword--and want to use Major or Superior runes, be sure to put them on separate headpieces of the same attribute. Makes it a lot simpler. Droknar's Forge has the highest armor level in the game, for the cheapest amount you can CRAFT. For the highest armor level in the game you DON'T have to pay for, consider collectors' armor you get when you hit the desert. Not as fancy but free if you find the items you need. |

1. Weapon mods are applied to weapons - there are 2 mods per weapon, except for wands which can't be upgraded. To apply a mod you double-click on the upgrade and then click on the weapon your wanting to upgrade.
Weapon color doesn't have anything to do with weapon modding, except for "green" weapons from Sorrow's furnace which can't be modded. You can replace any mod with another by simply applying the new mod to the weapon - you'll get a window asking if your sure you want to do this (as it replaces the old mod and you will loose the old mod). So say you have a Fiery Axe of Fortitude and you get a Icy Axe Haft and want that instead.. double-click the icy haft then click on the axe, select "yes" and the Icy Haft will apply.. giving you a Icy Axe of Fortitude. Weapon Mods can be recovered by the use of an Expert Salvage Kit. This gives you a chance of getting the mod off the weapon - but you will loose the weapon in the process. If there are 2 mods you can only get 1 of the mods back, and you can always just get crafting materials from the weapon. 2. Runes are applied to your armor by double-clicking the rune and then clicking on the armor piece you want it applied to. This then puts the rune in that armor piece and whenever you wear that piece of armor you'll get theeffect from the rune. You can replace a rune simply by apply'ing another rune to the armor - ie say you have a top with a Minor Vigor Rune in it and get a Major Vigor Rune.. if you apply the Major Rune to the armor with the Minor, the Major will overright the minor. You can only remove a Rune via the use of an Expert Salvage kit, and as with weapon upgrades you only have a chance of recovering the rune from the armor piece. Note that you have 100% chance of recovery from monster dropped armor's. And when you expert salvage your armor you will loose that piece of armor. Also note the following: - you can only have common (Vigor) runes or runes of your main profession applied to your armor (ie if your a W/E you can apply Warrior runes, but not elementalist runes) - Runes of the same attribute will not stack with each other (ie 2 Minor runes of blood is still only +1 Blood, not +2) - Only the highest effect will apply if you have 2 runes of the same attribute (ie 1 Major rune of Blood & 1 Minor Rune of Blood will result in +2 Blood as Major (+2) > Minor (+1)) - All negative effects from Major and Superior Runes stack with each other, even if the positive effect's don';t (ie 5 Superior runes of Blood will give +3 Blood and a whopping -375 health) 3. You can first get Gladiators armor (I assume thats what you mean by Barbarian set) in Yak's Bend. The other armor's come available in Droknar's Forge. |

As for Gold/purple comment, ANY weapon can be modded, even collector's, although I don't recommend it, as you can't salvage ANY collector's items. As for the replacement, see above, and if you want to remove and want to be SURE you "ONE" back, expert salv it. Regular salv gives mats only from my experience. Why I say "ONE" is currently, you only get one mod if you mod a weapon with 2. I know, it kinda sucks, but it's how it works. 2. Runes work as such: You buy them from people, or vendors, or aquire them through identification of armors <usually common<light blue>, uncommon<purple>, and rare<gold>. To get runes out of armor, I suggest expert salvage kits, it almost always returns the rune in the armor to you. As for buying them from Player characters, watch out not to get ripped off. Before buying from player characters, I suggest checking out the [Rune Trader]'s stock, to see what the rune is currently at. If the PC is charging to much, buy it from the NPC. Now for usage, when you aquired the rune you want <Keep in mind only runes of your MAIN profession may be used, so if you're say for instance, a W/Mo, only WARRIOR runes work for you, Monk runes will not. You can apply them to your armor by double-clicking them and selecting the armor-piece you want. To remove, simply salvage the armor when you're done using <preferably with expert+ to ensure you get a return> Now, to remove/upgrade them: Removing: Salvage your armor. Plain and simple. To Upgrade them from Minor to major or major to superior, simply find the armor piece that is minor/major and use the rune of the same type <major/superior> and overwrite the rune currently in your armor. 3. Droknar's Forge, the 1.5k armor, is located in Droknar's forge, ironically. It is in the south shiverpeaks, quite a nice jog from beacon's perch. other areas of interest: Marhan's Grotto/Granite Citadel/Fissure of Woe: these places charge an arm and a leg for the same armor <but with different graphics> It's a vanity thing. --Hope this helped --The Shim |

Thanks a lot for the replies, I appreciate it. Also I had another question, how do I actually get weapon mods? I noticed that sometimes when I identify items it will say I "unlocked" a weapon mod, but the mod itself doesnt show up in my inventory.

It's still on the weapon =)
You have to salvage it off, I'd suggest using an expert to be safe, I use Sup kits myself. Then "Salvage" it by double click kit and the weapon with the MOD you want. Then it'll convert the weapon down into the MOD. Hope this clarified. --The Shim |

Shimus - You can't salvage mods from weapons, or runes from armor, with a normal Salvage kit. You can only salvage them with an Expert or Superior salvage kit - using a normal will only ever net you crafting materials.
randir14 - when it says something is "unlocked", it means that the upgrade/rune/skill has been unlocked for use with PvP characters - if you created a PvP only character you will now be able to use whatever was unlocked with it.. However if you want to use it in PvE you will still have to salvage it from the armor/weapon with a Expert Salvage Kit. Last edited by Kamatsu; Nov 20, 2005 at 11:38 AM // 11:38.. Reason: typo's :P |

One more question, sorry. I salvaged an axe and got this mod:
Axe Grip of Deathbane +11% (vs Undead) My current axe is: Chaos Axe of Shelter 6-28 dmg Damage +11% Energy Regeneration -1 Armor +4 (vs. physical attacks) Dmg +20% customized If I used the mod on my axe, would the original +11% be replaced by the +11% vs. Undead? Or would it stack? Oh and also, to salvage a rare material from an item, do I have to identify the item first? Last edited by randir14; Nov 21, 2005 at 07:36 AM // 07:36.. |

The +11% Damage mod on that axe is a fixed mod - it's a natural mod on the Axe and won'y ever be replaced by whatever mod you put on it. Same with that -1 Energy Regeneration mod.. it's natural to the Axe.
If you applied the Deathbane Grip to the axe you would replace the "of Shelter" mod and thus loose the +4 Armor vs physical attacks... So instead of the +4 armor, you'd have +11% damage vs Undead.. giving you +42% damage vs Undead and +31% damage vs everything else.. You don't need to ID a weapon/armor drop to get either a weapon mod or rune from them. If you get a drop with a upgrade and use an Expert Salvage Kit on it, and assuming you get the upgrade, you'll get an un-id'ed upgrade. You won't be able to use the upgrade till you ID the upgrade. As for getting rare crafting materials from drops, you don't have to ID the drops to have a chance at getting rare crafting materials from them. All you need to do is use an Expert Salvage Kit on the item.. and you'll have a chance of getting the rare crafting materials from it. |
