runes
Once you put a rune on a piece of armour can you take it off? And when there is a rune already on a piece of armour can you put on a different rune and the other one is replaced by the new one?

there is a chance (possibly a 50/50 or so) you can salvage it.

You can get the rune back...possibly if you salvage. This is not a guarantee...you may get salvage materials. If you put a new Rune on it cancels the old rune out. Also...for instance if you have a minor vigor on you legs, a major on you helmet, and a superior on your chest. Only the superior will count. The better...or should I say greater supercedes the other no matter what peice it is on.
There is a bunch of postings on this... try using this link...change criteria to titles only to narrow your search. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/search.php? |

also note salvaging to get your rune back means your armour piece goes bye-bye. expensive if you wear 15k armour...

If you want to remove it, Expert salvage is the way, as regular gives back just materials. Now if you want to upgrade the rune of the same type<or different> just overwrite the current rune in there by double click on rune you want, and the piece of armor with the rune you want to overwrite/upgrade.
Also, I don't recommend salvaging higher up armor incase you made an oops, just cancel out the rune if you don't want it anymore by getting a rune already in your armor and putting another type <of the same> in. It'll cancel both out effectively "removing" the rune until you want to salvage/upgrade/overwrite. Hope this helped! --The Shim |

slightly off topic, but will runes stack with the 'specialized helmets'? ie can i use a markmanship rune with my archers mask and have them stack? don't want to waste a rune to check n see

like boxterduke said, however, if you just want to remove a rune because you don't like it's penalty, ie you put 2 superior runes on your armor but decided you only want one, it might be cheaper to buy a minor rune of whatever, to replace the superior with instead of salvaging the armor and having to rebuy that.
