Deleting Characters
I just started and made some bad mistakes on character generation and role-playing.
Can I delete the character I have and start over? I know I can create more characters, but I'd like to keep the name of my original. Or Can I change the name of a character after creation? |

You can't change the name of your character. however, you can delete your current character, create another one, and name it the same way as your old one.

Just delete the character you don't want anymore. Your character name might still be usable if someone doesn't take the name before you can make another character with the same name. You cannot change the name of a character at this moment. Hopefully ArenaNet offers the service in the near future. |

But yeah, don't worry about it you want a PVP/PVE character, if you delete, but want a new class combo on the same name, it reserves now, from what Savio said. So experiment away. --The Shim |

Sort-of related question:
Let's say I create a character named Character A. You add Character A to your friends list. Later on I delete Character A. Scenario 1: I recreate Character A within my 1 hour. Scenario 2: I don't recreate Character A, ever. I do have other characters, though. Scenario 3: I don't recreate Character A, ever. I don't have any other character. Scenario 4: I don't recreate Character A, ever. Someone else takes the name. What happens to your friends list in each scenario? Basically, does your friends list survive these scenarios? Can you ever get the 'wrong' person (possibly through scenario 4) in your list? Thanks. |

Just to note, if you delete a character and created the same exact character with the same name, you still cannot wear any armor from the old character even if they have the same name.

The first character becomes the name for the entire account. If I make "Warrior Bob" and "Monk Mary" and your friend adds Bob to his list he will see either Bob or Mary, whichever is online at the moment.
If you delete Bob, that name will still show in the friends list until one of the other characters is online. |

But what happens in Scenario 4, where the Warrior Bob name has been taken and used by another person? Or any of the scenarios where you, the original owner of the Warrior Bob name, no longer own it, but it's still on my friends list? Does Warrior Bob get replaced in my friends list with whatever character you next sign on with? Thanks. |
