there is no real rank, just whats in demand. people use swords that fit their build, while some buy them just for looks. granted i have a nice new fellblade, but it just so happened to fit the build that im using on my warrior exacticalyl so i bought it, before i had a different build that i was using a modified sword crafted from droknars forge. was a lot cheaper than buying a sword with those mods that was 15>50 and req 9.......

Back when I spent more time as a trader, I noticed that the blades that bring the most interest and passion - fells and crystalines - also seem to generate strong negative feelings from others. So people seemed to either love them or despise them.
I guess that - just because of rarity - the crystaline is the most sought after blade; followed closely by the fellblade. I also noticed - in my trading days - that really knowledgeable players often were in the brute sword camp. It's a little weird since, as you said in the note, these are just skins and no sword skin will kill a single beast. I'm just talking generally but brutes did seem to be the sophisticated choice. Maybe I just think that because, of the swords, it's my favorite too. When I started the game, almost in the beginning, the fiery dragon sword was highly sought-after. Now, it's considered a newbie sword and generates strong negative feelings. That's odd too since it is sort of pretty. I still have my customized crystaline and perfect brute in storage, but don't use swords at all anymore. |

people buy fellblades and crystalines for looks more than rarity with the exception being a crystaline. everyone wants the black blade from the fellblade to match their black armor. everyone wanted the firey dragon sword to match ruric's because all our blades were steel. BTW the firey dragon is still my choice of swords in certian areas of the game as it seems to do more dmg than a regular blade does.

On axes, the "skin" actually does make a little difference. Most axes do slashing damage, but some few (Piercing Axe, Battlepick, ...) do piercing damage.

Dont forget the Brutesword. Its quite a handsome skin, i prefer it to the fellblade myself, although my favorite is still the Wingblade.

slightly off-topic: how does the different types of damage that axes do(piercing..) affect armor/damage?

The difference is really minor. It's just that some foes have reduced or increased armor against certain damage types. For example plants have reduced armor against slashing. The necro's Bonelace Armor provides a bonus against piercing. Also, there are some skills that are specific for piercing or slashing, for example the warriors' "Shields up!" shout.
But overall, the difference slashing/piercing is really minor. They are both physical damage. |
