Preparations are a ranger's self-targetting enchantment-like (but not actually an enchantment) thing used to add some effect to bow attacks. All Preparations requires a bow to be useful except Apply Poison, which can work with warrior weapons as well.

The skill will say "Preparation" in the first line. That's the best way to know which skills are preps

Preps under Expertise? ...I hope you don't mean [K]nowledge book as in using k in-game to bring up the skills menu. If you do, you're very much mistaken. There is one preparation under Marksmanship, and all the others are under Wilderness Survival.

To see what preparation skills are in your personal inventory of skills open your skill list menu by pressing 'K'. Once the skill list box is open there is a drop down menu at the top that lets you sort by various methods such as name, cost, type, etc.
Choose the TYPE option. This sorts them into really useful categories such as Attack, Bow Attack, Enchantment, Pet Attack, Spell, Traps, Skills, PREPARATIONS, stances, and a few more. Preps actually have their own category. Sorting this way is really neat I think. It is a good way to plan out your build. Since preparations and stances don't stack it's a good idea to limit them to 1 or 2 slots in most cases. So you can easily see your nature rituals and choose one if you want, then go to preps, stances, bow and pet attacks, and skills until you've finished filling out your skill slot. It provides a good way to compare what each prep, stance, or whatever has to offer in comparison to exactly the same class of buff/debuff. I hope that helped some. Good luck. |

All skills have their skill type in the first line - theres no trickery - its plain.
If it says "Enchantment Spell" - Its a [Spell] that causes an [Enchantment] on the target. If it says "Bow Attack" - its a [Attack] skill that uses a Bow has its weapon choice. Dont try to read to much into skills. Skill type is one of the few things plainly Spelled out for you. For example with Barrage: Barrage would take off "Kindle Arrows" which is listed as a [Preparation] but would not take off Judge's Insight which is listed as an [Enchantment Spell]. |
