Gold Item drops - Guild Wars Forums

Has something been changed regarding gold item drops? Used to be, so my guildies tell me, that when you salvaged a blue item, you got a minor rune, purple item a major rune, and a gold item a superior rune. Now all I seem to get when salvaging a gold item are major runes. I've been playing for about 2 months now and have salvaged 1 superior rune of water magic, with my W/R before the update of NOV 10/11. Since then every rune I've salvaged from a gold item has been a major rune, not superior.

Anyone else notice this, or is it just my bad luck?

It all depends on where you farm. If you farm in lower level places and find gold drops you will most likely only get a minor or major rune. If you farm in higher level places you have a good chance of getting superior runes from gold drops.

Wrong.

Blue armor: Minor rune only
Purple armor: Minor or major rune
Gold armor: Major or superior rune

A long time back, this wasn't the case, but it's been quite a few months since it was changed to its present state.

I have farmed outside of ascalon before and got a minor rune from a gold drop so im pretty sure im right.

But yeah, back in the day, it was only minor/major/sup, but now with Purples/Golds, you have a chance to yield the same quality or one level below..most of the time one level below in my Experience.

I think think this was a good addition myself, as this way everytime a gold dropped, they though "oooh, sup rune!" just to get a major rune *smack!*

It made farming more interesting knowing you always don't get the same yield. Just like real life farming, some crops can fail or some can do just as well

You sure it just wasn't a sup/major rune, but in blue lettering? I heard this is more then a commonplace occurence outside/around ascalon, though I have yet to test it.

I agree with you, I have seen lots of people brag " awesome a gold drop, im gunna be rich now from this superior rune" and then they get a major. Its pretty funny because I laugh at them and they get pissed off at me.

Thats half the reason. I laugh, they get over it. Hell, it happens to me too. And if you can answer from quote from you in my above post, it'll clear alot of things up, fast.

Yeh I am sure that it was a minor, not a major with blue lettering.

Then, I'm sorry to say, that's just impossible. I've never seen a gold with a minor rune, screenshot and i'll believe you...but ...Unien is right, it's just not possible..

We're telling you, in the coding, there's no way a minor rune can drop from a GOLD armor...unless there's a bug in that section of the coding, it's plain and simple, not possible.

Thanks folks. When I salvaged my Superior Rune of Water Magic, one of my guildies said, "hey, we're running to all the sothern Shiverpeaks settlements." Bagged this rune from a mursaat trying to get to Thunderhead, IIRC, before I figured out where I had to go to get infused.

I've gotten a few gold drops that got me all excited about a "superior" rune and have gotten major and minor from them. Most frequently a major secondly a superior and least common a minor...I FIRMLY beleive that there should be this absolute: color indicates rune rank (period)...if a gold doesn't give you a superior rune, there should be no rune at all (10 leather squares or something), but if it isn't a superior, the armor has no freakin' buisiness showing up gold.

hmmmmm......so if u get a armor drop of lets say major vigor.....and u salvage it.....does it turn into a major vigor roune.....cuz i nvr tried that b-4

If you use the expert salvage kit, you will more than likely get the major rune, if you get a rune. You don't always get a rune though. At least that's been my experience.

I farm the avicara in mineral springs, they're all lvl 24. Most golden armor is major though
