A good tank is more a question of good positioning.
The popular pick is monk, altough ele (armor of earth) or ranger (stances) can also be used. |

For going through PVE the first time on a warrior, you can't get much safer then a Monk secondary. Although, if I had to do it again, I might have chosen necromancer, when you have creatures huddled around you, mark of pain and stuff would have been handy, not to mention lifetaps. But I'm more comfortable with a W/Mo in PVE, and then when you get to the desert do all the "Change your profession" quests and get skills for each other secondary that way incase you want to go a different route, options are still available.

I use Warrior Necromancer for the warrior I'm getting thorugh PvE.
I use mostly Adrenal skills, so my energy is enough to habour Vamp Touch as one of my heals. I just dont like Healing Sig that much in a fight, because you really cant use it while getting hit (or you'll just take more dmg from using it). And /mo is so popular and overdone :\ |

The W/Mo is overdone, as said another poster. I have seen few of them trying to convince me they can be a backup healer! He can cast 2 horizon of healing and 1 healing breeze, take a off-hand and you can a total of 4 horizon of healing and 2 healing breezze; and don't forget the 2 regen pipe only! Anyway, if I would make a Warrior from the beginning and doing the game seriously, W/N would be my choice ! |

Don't discount a mesmer secondary. The inspiration stances are very useful for tanking. Not to mention, I think a mesmer secondary ultimately gives you the most flexibilty.

A good Tank can be any secondary... You have to be able to customize your skills to match your party... Don't be afraid to switch secondaries. Just don't burn all your skill points on crap skills. I usually go Wa/Ra or Wa/Mo depending on the situation. Remember you can switch secondaries as often as you like after you complete the quests. Make yourself comfortable with several builds and you can do many things. The Warrior can't be as many things as a Ranger, but the options are great.
