E/W and the armor he should work toward...
Ok, before anyone cracks a joke or makes a sly comment...YES, I do have an Elementalist/Warrior. To be honest a group of my friends have a set of characters that are Elementalists/X. They did not have an E/W, so I figured I'd add to the mixture. I've heard bad things about mixing the two but I want to see how it pans out. Any constructive comments are welcome. The real question though is what should I do for armor? I am relatively new at all this so I'm learning as I go.
I think I'm going to make him an Aeromancer and I know that they have their own 'armor'. Do you get this armor at a certain point once you've gained a certain level of skill in Air Magic or is it something you must create/find? Also, since his secondary class is Warrior...can he wear warrior's armor? If so, what should I attempt to go for to help boost my defensive capabilities. I know that is one of the drawbacks of having an E/W. |

You have to wear elementalist armor throughout the game. There are several kinds, including one of each element. Most give you +15 AL against the element they are for- i.e. aeromancer= + 15 against air. Your best bet would be to invest in some earth magic for defensive spells like armor of earth, ward against melee, etc. And yes, E/W melee characters are generally looked down upon.

Your secondary class only contributes skills and attributes to your character. Your Ele/W will look like any other elementalist and, depending on your build, play like any other one as well.
Just because you have a warrior secondary doesnt mean you have to be melee. Find a few warrior skills that fit into your build (1 or 2 at most) or dont use any at all, makes no difference. Quote:

i'd say add in some warrior skills wich give you energy for blocking evading attacks or yust some stances for when spells get hit with interruption

You will be able to buy Aeromancer's armour later in the game, but you could just as happily wear Pyromancer's armour or any other kind, depending on;
1. what you can afford, including materials, 2. the appearance of the armour, 3. to show off that you are not simply using meteor shower. |

First off, you can only ever wear armor of your primary class.
Secondly, I like a E/W combo. Stances like Shield Stance + spells = Even if something aggroes you as an Elementalist, you can negate damage, as skills/spells don't break shield stance. Not to mention some skillsl ike armor of earth, and stuff otherwise to negate damage you can get into the thick of things without worrying about being "squishy" For armor, I recommend mis-matching pieces to get bonuses against the different elements. If you don't mind looking a bit mis-matched, it works the best I've found. --The Shim |

If you are going in to melee range then you might want to look at fire, water or earth spells as they all have area damage. Example:
Fire: Inferno + Flame Burst + Lava Font = 2 big bursts of area damage and a DOT to make them run away. Earth is good for the armor enchantments + Crystal Wave + Aftershock. Keep a good sword or axe with no or low requirements and good bonuses and use it to drawn you into melee range then switch to a staff/wand+focus and blast away. As previously noted, if it isn't working for you then switch to a more ranged approach. My el/mo has rarely used any monk skills other than rebirth. |
