Default Have I been hacked or was this some sort of bug?

Today, I was playing on my new mesmer, and all at the sudden I was logged of because I had an error which told me that someone else logged in to my account.

But I think this might also be some sort of bug because no-one knows my password! And my password isn't a logical one that someone could have guessed.

Any one else got these problems?

And if it's not a bug, could someone tell me how that person could have gotten my password + email-address? Can I prevent that in any way?

Thank you in advance

download add-on software (skill-calculators/bots/etc.) visit shady websites and you may have a keylogger on your pc.

I didn't download anything or visit a website recently which I had not visited before, besides some other fansites of Guildwars which all are official.

Also I don't use extra software like a bot or something. Any other way of being hacked?

I had the same thing happen to me a while back. I've never downloaded and installed any of the 'helper' applications for GW and the computer has never had any viruses, keyloggers, spyware, etc. installed.

I decided what happened was: The password I was using for GW (at the time) was very similar to other passwords that I was using for a few other GW-related sites (yeah, an IT guy should know better, but I was being lazy), one of those sites had their user data peeked at, and someone guessed my GW password (would've been easy). Outside of some error on the server-side, that's the only plausible explanation...although any site worth their salt should have the passwords encrypted in the database, but anyway... I immediately logged back in to GW (which I assume would've kicked off the supposed perpetrator with the same error message) and changed my password. Nothing ever happened to my account. I did go ahead and check my system afterwards to see if I had somehow finally been tagged with some shady software, but it was clean.

So change your GW password (if you haven't already), making sure it's not one you use elsewhere. Of course, if your OS isn't secured (firewalls, antivirus, security patches, what have you), it could be some shady software... So install all security patches from Windows Update, install a firewall, and install antivirus software. Then I'd download some antispyware software to see if you got tagged (if the firewall or antivirus software didn't already pick it up).

Well, what you need to do is change your password and maybe even your account info as soon as possible. If no items went missing then your pretty lucky. Now if your in pre-asl place for newbies and lost anything I wouldn't worry about it since you cannot get really much in there of really any value besides black dyes. You should really get into a habit of making new passwords for everything you do. This would insure the most protection, and also I would really recommend numbers and words mixed and no words in your password. Good Luck and I hope your account is still with you, all the person would have to do is change the password and account e-mail and it's his.

there is a new exploit out that self installs.

there is a temp patch on the pc magazine site to use until microbucks puts out a patch.

oh yes this one goes past firewalls and has many payloads including keyloggers

The wise thing to do would be to run an adaware program, change your password, and hopefully be on your merry way.

I have had this for months and never thought nothing of it. Nothing has happened to any of my chars or items. I think just a bug.

Thx all for your help and advice. I have changed my password, and have run a program which should get rid of adware.

Hopefully I'm save again

I would reccomend using the microsoft antispyware beta for detecting adware/spyware. It finds a lot of stuff.
