HoD Sword, energy canes...etc
I can't understand the pattern of thought surrounding the people I have encountered while sitting in Ascalon watching people sell items. I see people selling staff upgrades for energy, +5, 4 and so on. People are selling +4 energy for something like 5k and +5 energy for 15k or more. I've played GW for over 150 total hours, and not once, have I ever had to rely on 1 more energy to save mine or a teammates life. Paying an extra 10k for something so meaningless is ludicrous in my mind. Same thing goes with sword upgrades, (hp + 30, 29...) and sundering or furious, (10%, 9%). Why are people willing to pay so much extra money for 1 more health, or 1 more % chance that the attack will have 10% penetration? 10% penetration does almost nothing. A 10% chance of having that is virtually useless. But still, it never fails to amaze me why people are paying these outrageous prices for these. I actually tested it with my warrior. I have a sword that does 10%^50 and one that does 14%^50...Now, thats a huge difference in % to some people, but in reality, I was RARELY doing more damage with the "better" sword. Once in a while it would strike for +1 more, but only maybe 10% of the time. I can't find the reasoning behind this. Can someone enlighten me, because I'd really like to know.

It's simply perfection versus imperfection...people want to put the perfect modifiers on the perfect sword and never have to worry about it again.
Most people can live with imperfection, especially when there isn't a difference. But those that want it will pay out the whazzzoooo for it. |

I think that people spend more money on "perfect" items as there aren't that many money sinks ingame, some people have more money than they can spend.

It is technically a better item, it's just unecessary, but if you have the money, why not?
i.e. the sundering mods...even a perfect one translates to 1% armor penetration per hit...thats nothing |

Ha simple, It's just like owning a casio 50$ watch or a Rolex 10,000$ watch. They both give time, yet some people go for the more expensive. That's why I dislike rich people, they buy without care, while the poor have to think 200 times before purchasing a 500g item.

If you think thats funny - try getting a Green Item thats worth alot - and finding a gold item that has the same stats. The Gold would be PRICELESS comapred to the green.

Instead of looking at how close to perfect something is, look at how flawed it is. Maybe this changes how you view the mods? Remember, you are paying for these mods. Are you willing to take a 20% flawed item (eg. +4 instead +5 Energy Mod)? What about on the damage side? What if your skill did three less damage because your 16% skill mod was not high enough? What if your spell casting speed was slower because your mod was at 6% instead of 10%? Looking at one aspect of a weapon and not the collection as a whole is a big mistake. I think you want every conceivable advantage in this game and max provides you that regardless of your skill.

I guess it comes down to what some people are willing to waste their money on. Honestly, if I was rich enough in this game that I could blow extra 15k on seemingly useless upgrades like 1 more hp or 1 more energy, I'd rethink how much time I'm spending playing this game.
