It means that you get the listed bonus while your character is in a stance. If you are a warrior using a sword with "+15% damage while in a stance" you will do 15% more damage while using Bonetti's Defense, for example.
Same applies to... "while enchanted" = while there is an enchantment on you (mending, healing breeze, etc) "while hexed" = while you suffer from a hex, like Conjure Phantasm "while health is over 50%" = you get the bonus while your health bar is over 50% etc |

there are certain skills that will are considered a "stance". I'm going to go out on a limb and say your looking at a weapon or shield. so in order for you to get that bonus protection/damage you will need to use a "stance" skill.
A couple examples for you...Tigers Fury, dodge, whirling Def. , Bonettis D, Gladiator D. ...hope that helps. looks like Dean beat me to it. |

"Charge" is a shout. When you are looking at the skill/spell description it will say in the top left corner what type it is. be it, shout, stance, hex, enchantment...elite...
oh man beat again..I shouldn't be doing this at work...oh no busted too..lol oops |

Just as a quick add, Mantras are also considered as stances.

Sorry, Natalie, I phrased it poorly. When discussing stances, people tend to think about Tanks and Rangers; the point I was trying to raise is that Mesmers have quite a lot of stances too.

A stance is, in simplest terms, how you stand. For example, in the movie the Karate Kid, when he's in the fight standing on one foot with his arms out he's in the crane pose/position/stance. Guildwars simply uses stances as another type of skill, much like spell, trap, etc.
