Brand new to the game....
Hi everyone
Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Just logged in for the first time ever about 5 minutes ago, have been meaning to try GW for awhile. Are there any particular profession combinations that make good "learning" or "beginner" types? I made a necro for my first character just because I tend to like the class in other games, no idea what it will entail here. Also...I'm obviously going to learn the game first before I start seeking out groups to play with but just so I know in the future, what are good places for new folk such as myself to go to meet others in game and start the learning process? Not sure if there are any guilds dedicated to "training" new folks or not (don't worry, I'm not the type to ask for handouts - only advice). Anyways, mostly just wanted to say hi but would appreciate some answers if people have them. Hope to see you in-game sometime |

A good combo IMHO is having a monk secondary. It'll help keep you alive in tough battles. But really it depends on what you like playing as. Good luck on your journeys and enjoy an excellent game.

Well thank you all so much.
I had some fun with my necro last night so I will at least be sticking with that for now. Still have to pick a secondary though. Can always delete and restart later if I change my mind I'm going to look into finding a guild, I assume there's plenty of options here. And DeathDealer, thanks so much. I'm sure I will be contacting you with questions soon enough |

I suggest *\Monk.
Why? Monk skill such as healing/rezzing/and damage reduction can be helpful. Especially if you play with NPC henchman. If I relied solely on NPC healers or even PUG healers, I never would have been able to get as far as I was able to with my warrior/monk. I play a ranger/mesmer now and I survive on instinct and experience. |

I'm very patient with these things, played tons of MMORPGs before so I know the drill
Making some progress at this point although I keep making new chars to mess around with - hard to get a "feel" for one and settle on something. Only thing I've settled on NOT doing is a monk primary because I tend not to like playing healing classes. Anyways, I'm sure I'll get things figured out soon and I've been happy to see how supportive people are on the boards. Gonna keep working on my character(s) and start looking for a guild. |

Welcome to GW - you're sure to have fun with it. Good idea messing around with the different classes. Be sure to explore the various kinds skills each has to offer, like death magic or curses for Necros, although you're kinda limited doing that in green ascalon.
A monk secondary is a good choice for self healing. Nice thing about the game is that further on in the story-line, if you don't like your secondary, you can change it. An Elementalist secondary isn't the best choice, because it generally takes quite a bit more energy to run effectively. There's lots of guilds out there who are more than happy to help out showing folks the ropes. |
