Ok, no one come down hard on me because I just started guild wars about two weeks ago.

Since the whole 55hp monk is based around protective spirit, then you can only lose 10% of you hp total. So, for example, if your hp was 400, you would still die in 11 hits (10 hits, 1 for the kill). And if you have 55hp, then you would still die in the same number of hits, because you lose 10% regardless of your health.

There's more to it than that. The 55 HP Monks typically use Mending and/or Healing Breeze. When you're only losing 5 HP with the 55 HP build, it's very easy to regenerate that 5 HP incredibly quickly. When you're losing 40 HP max (with the 400 HP example), you can't regenerate that as quickly, and the damage adds up over time.

well if you have 400hp youwould lose 40hp per hit, if you have 55hp you lose 5hp or something :P per hit.

this means if you have mending running with 4 regain you gain 8hp a secound, so this means that you are back up to max hp and can take another hit, were as if you had 400hp you wouldn't be able to heal as much.

its all about protecting and healing - then attacking

Less health is a lot more managable.
Try it, and if you want to see what I mean, get one of those -20 health off hands and die with your 55 setup. Switch the -50 off hand to -20, this will make your health 13.
You will be more invincible than having 55 health

Man the 55 monk is sure complex but wouldnt it kill you wait nvm it has protective spriit

The only thing thats totally kills a 55hp character is degen and life steal (ie vamp gaze), prot spirit etc doesn't protect against those.
