Henchmen and Aggro
So, I rolled a W/N and I like to keep the number of henchmen I bring to a minimum. Just a healer, and maybe some range damage if necessary. I have played a lot of World of Warcraft, so I'm use to having skills that instantly focus a mobs attention on me. However, I see that there are no skills that taunt mobs in Guild Wars!
I find my healer gets targetted and killed a lot. Seems she is more of a pain in the ass to bring along than an asset. I would like to hear strategies for getting aggro so that I can soak up and deal the damage. Anyone, have any good tank strats? Also, the concept of pulling is a bit difficult with henchmen as there is no way to have them not attack or stay in a location while you go and pull 1 or 2 mobs from a group. Any good tactics here anyone could clue me in on? Thanks! |

Having a second player is usually the key for keeping the henchmen out of the aggro. One goes and aggro while the other stays back and moves side to side. Looks and sounds rediculous but it works.

Also remember that you don't have to attack a creature to aggro it - just edge your agro circle over it and it'll come after you.. then you run like mad to pull it away from the others.. but remember, it will return back to the others after a short chase..
Another thing you can do to try and keep aggro off the healer is to take the warrior henchie along with you.. then when you see an enemy.. press CTRL-SHIFT-SPACE and this will "target" the creature and send the warrior henchie after it... Generally if you do this at the right distance the creature's will go for the warrior henchie rather than Alesia. The big problem with henchies is they follow your lead.. you run, they run with you.. you attack and they attack as well. And as for Alesia.. if your a W/* and run in to attack, she will stay close to you as your the "main" player.. and thus will end up in the thick of things.. Not much you can do except use targeting calls to send warrior henchie ahead and then follow after the henchie got the aggro. |
