New Pet = Lvl 5???!
I just got rid of my pet (some cat from Pre-Searing) and got a new one (a Lynx from Gates of Kryta mission), but this pet is Level **5**!!!! The old pet was at least Lvl 14!!
Is this normal? Are you normally supposed to keep your pet always? Why did the game not explain this? And finally, the question of dissapointment: can I get my old pet back? |

Nope not at this time... I had a proposal in the guild halls for a type of kennel for charmed pets so you could have a couple to choose from for PvP. But alas I don't think that will happen just yet...
So If you get rid of your existing pet you got to level it all back up again. Only exception is the Elder Spider in the underworld. It starts at level 20. Back in the beta you could find more higher level pets to charm in more difficult areas. But all charmable animals at this time begin a either level 1 or 2 presearing, or level 5 post... |

1. new pets are always level 5... except for the spider in UW. this is so you can level it up yourself and control its "evolution"
2. nope, your old pet has been put to sleep already. too many at the pound. |

But remember, when you ask the guy, "What do you do with your animals," he says he gives them to some person... Does that person have my pet, perhaps?

There is a place for all of Melandru's animals, right next to the salad and potatoes
Now that implies the following, does a Strider and Moa taste the same (maybe just like chicken)? Hmm, you know I've never ate any of the tamable animals even though I'm an avid hunter and a member of a club that tends to eat wild game. Of them the bear is the only one I might have a chance at but I don't have any property I can hunt them on nor do I know anyone who hunts them. I did name my lizard "White Meat" though - seemed approriate for a small test of an IWAY in PvE (went back to my old build, though I think with White Meat at lv20 running some of the lower-medium level missions would be easier). My actual Ranger's pet isn't expendable (not much of a pet if it is). |

Remember that getting a pet later in the game also means the bad guys are at higher levels, it will take much less time to get your new pet to level up than it did with your original one

What a terrible, terrible decision by the developers I think, to leave it to forums for the average gamer to figure out about the Level 15 pets, and never be informed of this grand dupery that I was just the victim of. It only made sense that a pet found in a super-high-level area (a LYNX) would be a super-high-level pet. Unfortunately that wasnt the only thing I was wrong about. Now I have a Level 5 piece of crap, and require forums to figure out the rest. Not cool. Not cool at all. I think there is a gaping hole in the game in the area of pets. Something needs to be explained vividly, ingame, or nobody is going to understand, like I didn't, that you arent supposed to get new pets (even tho they are of different, more powerful-looking species), why the new pets suck, and why they cant get their old one back, even after the guy specifically tells you that he gives the animals to someone for safekeeping when you say, "What do you do with the animals you receive?". "I give them to some lady in this area for safekeeping..." Crap-tastic. I want my Mr. Kitty back. Last edited by Dario D.; Feb 02, 2006 at 01:06 PM // 13:06.. |

When I got to the desert with my level 13 wolf, I fancied getting a Dune Lizard. I was level 20, the monsters around were level 20. I targetted the lizard to see what level it was. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the Dune Lizard's low level 5 will make it highly under-powered against the level 20 monsters in the area. As for not being able to get your pet back, Jarrel the Tamer states this when you ask "Do you have any interest in my companion here?" and he will reply "Oh, my! This one is a little exotic! Not only am I interested, I will gladly pay you 100 gold. just keep in mind that once we do this, you will not have a chance to change your mind. Having been cast aside, your friend here will never wish to return to you. Are you certain you wish to permanently sever the bond between you and your beast?" That seems very clear that you will never get it back. (REF: http://gwvault.ign.com/View.php?view...comment_page=2) You've lost a decent pet for a new lower level one, get over it - don't the blame the developers for not paying attention. If you read the first message well enough to remember it, it's mighty strange you didn't remember the second one. Oh well. Maybe they could add a red line like the one I've drawn. Unlucky, mish |
