Smudged access key
So I tried scratching the stuff off the access key but it didn't seem to be working, so I stupidly tried peeling the plastic off. Now large sections of the access key are unreadable. Am I hosed?

it might require sending it physically in to them. good luck. the first response is usually automated so a follow up email is usually needed to get a person or it will be closed |

Never mind, I got it. It took about 50 different combinations but it finally took it.
My question now is: why all the high security with the access key? The box is sealed, the cardboard insert is wrapped in labelled cellophane and the cd case itself is also wrapped. The fourth layer of security on the key just seems silly. Are they afraid someone's going to try to stick the box in an x-ray machine or something? I'm glad I got it to work, though. I thought I was going to cry |

I think the reason for all the security is thus:
I bought my copy from Game(UK) and they take the contents out of the boxes to save on display and storage space. Therefore by securing the key card so well Anet make sure that someone cant just peek at a card and get a second account for free. |

Everytime I purchase a game, I always check the seals for any evidence of tampering. Too many times I've seen boxes on the shelves with peel marks or razor cuts.
I'm glad that ANet went through the effort to secure the number. |

My question would be, Now that you got it to work, did you write the code down so you won't forget it? Just in case you have a HDD crash.....

You don't need the key anymore once you create an account, just make sure to remember the email address you used and the password. I reloaded windows, and redownloaded the client, and then punched in my email address and password, BOOM, GW is back in action. |
