a few more questions from a noob...
Hi, I have a few more questions:
1. What exactly is the little blue person icon above character heads with a number beside it? i.e. in the Norther Wall. I assume that means that character is the leader of a party with x number of people. Is it polite to just join up if they don't have the maximum people? and what is the maximum? 2. I'm new to this game, and this type of game. Is there a place somebody like myself can go for some pick-up missions? I can't keep up with the elite players who know all the lingo, etc, and i don't want to mess something up for the team. While i am learning, what's the best way for me to join pick-up missions, or to ask for help with the missions and goals i have? i've advertised like this: "New player doing the Hammer and Anvil mission for the first time, anybody want to come? I'm a W/R10". most of the time i'm getting people that join, and then run though the mission. 3. Is there a "newbie guild"? 4. Is there anything that affects drop rate/quality? or is it just bad luck that i keep getting worthless stuff, while my teammates get dyes and stuff? 5. Where should i be getting weapons? i have the same sword from the begining of post-searing (i am at piken square now, doing those missions). 6. Finally...what is the best way to handle the worthless stuff? Just leave it on the ground? Bring it back and sell it? Salvage it and sell it? i'm talking about stuff that is not worth much gold, and if salvaged isn't worth much either. is spending 100gp on a salvage kit to salvage 25 belts into cloth worth it? i spend 100gp on the salvage kit, and the 25 cloths are worth 50gp, or whatever. i assume this is worth it later in the game when the cloth can be used. THANKS in advance. |

1. The little blue person tells you that person is in a group for the misson area and also the number tells how many people are inthe group with them.
3. There are a lot of guilds out there for people who are learning to play the game. My guild is one of them and there is a whole post here on guru where you can tell what kind of guild you are looking for and maybe get recruited. http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=2289 4. It is said that if you fight in the same area too often then the quality of your drops declines. I'm not sure if that has been totally confirmed, but it does seem to be true. 5. Anywhere - buy what you can afford thats better than you have. There are limits to weapon stats, so plan your spending accordingly.
6. It adds up if you save it and sell it (and you need it to upgrade your armor too) At later parts of the game, salvaging yields better results and can become quite lucrative. |

1. The person with the blue icon is a party leader and it shows how many they have in their party. The max number of people in the ascalon area is 4. Once you reach Yak's bend, it goes up to 6. When you reach Droknar's forge, it goes up to 8-person parties. I wouldn't reccommend just inviting yourself into a party blindly, unless you know that the party is doing the mission/quest that you want to do. best way to do it is to PM the party leader and ask.
2. Don't advertise that you're a new player, that's whats getting you hooked up with the runners. (who are probalby recruiting, but aren't really doing you any favors) Just say "W/R10 LFG (looking for group) for __________" If you don't want run, be sure to party up with people close to the same level as you. 3. Most guilds welcome newbies. 4. Drops are pretty much random. A lot of times it's just luck of the draw. 5. The further along in the game you go, the better the items that drop are. Keep an eye out for weapons with better stats than the one you have. You can also watch the chat in Ascalon City (districts 1 or 2) for people selling weapons. 6. Nothing is worthless, and there are ways to get more from an item. you probably already know that dye (even orange) is worth more than the 1g that you can get from the merchant, but all crafting materials can be sold to other players for more than the traders will give for it (Some things are harder to sell than others, tho). Also, it's a good idea to keep the materials that you need for your armor upgrades - If you're going with gladiators armor, for example, the materials you need for it are the same at every level - but you'll need more of the materials as the armor improves. Thanks...
Yes I know enough so i don't sell my silver dyes that i get every once in a while for 1gp.
"Running"...there is another question I have. What is "running"? I just did North Wall again, and one of the guys just sat there while myself and somebody else did the mission and the bonus. I only assume that they guy who wanted to "run" the mission had not done it before, and wanted the exp. Is that right? I was under the impression that the North Wall had different "bonuses". for instance, you only get the "mission" experiance (1000) once, but subsequent instances give you different "bonuses" (for 1000). I guess that is not the case. So you only do the "North Wall" mission once...but then why is area a "Cooperative mission" area? there is only one "coop mission" there, with one bonus? So I does me no good to do it again, i guess. I supposed if I were further in the game, this would all make sense...i.e. mayber there are 20 "cooperative mission" areas. |

Running is where a player ignores all the enemies - just running past them - and goes from point A to point B. The bad thing about this is that you loose out on loot & XP from killing stuff. Co-operative mission areas are the story-line missions. They're called Co-operative because they were designed to be completed by a party of players, not a solo player. Each mission has one bonus that you can do. In most cases, you can do the bonus in conjunction with the mission. you can only get the completion XP for each only once. But if you skip the bonus when doing the mission, you can always go back and do it later and get the XP then. In the storyline, there are some places where you'll end up that you'll need to pick up a quest to get you to the next co-op mission area - these are the Primary quests (example - the quest at Frontier Gate that takes you to Ruins of Surmia) |
