identify blue?
So say I've been ettin farming. One of them drops a blue tribal blade or something like it (instead of that superior vigor :-( ). Is it worth indentifying it? Is there any chance a pretty lame looking blue drop could have say a 10/10 on it that I could then salvage?
Cheers |

More than likely the mod will be bad. But why are you afraid to identify it? Salvage kits are worth 4/5 gold per use.

Definitely ID it. If it's precious it could be worth close to 200 gold, and highly salvageable stuff will give you a good amount of materials, well worth the price of the salvage.
But no, you won't get a max mod from a blue weapon. |

Personally, I don't ID it unless it's max dmg...which is pretty rare with a Blue.

You could get lucky in low level areas too, and get sought after crappy mods, like -energy (weapon or offhand - either way it's useful).

I believe that zealous upgrades can be found on lightblue weapons.
You can also get higly salvageable and precious items, aswell as energy -5 like the other guy said. Your drop could go from 30g to way over 200 (well, 100 is more likely, unless it's salvageable and you get 49 wood planks...) |

ID evertying colored(not white) past desert or so...before hand I don't really know about the returns but even the crap(blue and purple) later sales for more then the cost of the ID + the unided item(on average)

One of the most common mods on those weapons I find it Highly Salvageable which translates to crafting materials which is a nice way to turn a quick profit.

I ID most everything except in low level areas, and usually always if it's colored. Even if it's white, a lot of stuff in the south shivers sells for way more than the default 50-55 gold that the merchant offers to buy them for if you ID it. IDing something costs 5 gold, but when I used to hardcore farm the trolls, most of the white raven staffs came out ot be worth 90-100 gold when I IDed them, where they would've just sold for 50-55g to the merchant if I hadn't IDed. The profit off IDing items in high level areas drastically outweighs the little 5 gold cost per ID.

I highly recommend identifying all items, even whites. Especially later on, identifying a white item can significantly increase the value of the item, even if your intention is to sell it to trader.

In the later parts of the game, ID everything! In one Tombs run, I got 20 or so white items. I checked what the vendor would but them for un-ID'd and them ID'd them. They were worth about 350g more ID'd. That's an average increase of 15 - 17g per item and only costing 4g to ID each thing.
I did the same sort of thing in the Yak's bend area and about broke even with the cost of using the ID kit. In the Ascalon area, you lose money IDing white items. As for Blue items, Always ID. They may be precious or Highly salvageable. It's also possible there may be a mod on it that you can salvage for a decent profit. |

never knew that...what the hell is the point of iding a normal weapon...the logical reason they become worth more |

iding an item will always increase its merchant sell value more than the value of the id charge used so go for the id everytime, you may not get valuable mods but the extra sell value does add up fast

Strange one this. Got a blue sword (think it was a dragon one) and ID'd it. But there was nothing extra on it. Not precious, salvageable or any mods. Just a bog standard sword 11-21 dmg that was blue.
Any ideas people what was going on? Any one had anything similar when its id'd you get nowt? |
