Default A Little Help...please?

I recently became the leader of my guild, The Dragon Blade, and although I've lead guild's before in various games, I've never had as many issues as I've been having with this one. To start off, we had a LOT of inactive members, or members who weren't participating with the rest of us. We had 4 people who were active and stuff. One of those left to start his own guild with a friend from school. So...I went and kicked everyone who hadn't played in forever (1 month +) or who just didn't participate in the guild (you know...those members who kinda just sit on the list and never talk or do anything with us). We are now down to 5 members...one of which is the guild's creator who never plays and 3 members who are all busy with finals and mid-terms in school. I'm the only active member right now and am wondering...how do I go about recruiting the people I would like to have in the guild and how do I get them to stay? I want to start doing pvp 'n stuff...but have no experience with pvp in any game at all and don't have any members right now to really practice with to use that as a hook to get people to join and stay. I struggle!

Sounds like you are in a tough situation as far as attracting ppl to this guild. Especially if the other officers don't feel like you do or care about the guild.

A guild has to be honest about what it is and where it wants to go and then it has to stay focused.

You state that you would like to PvP but that you have no experience. Maybe start there, advertise that you are a very small guild that is wanting to learn PvP and is looking for ppl who want to start small and learn the ropes together. Maybe there aren't many ppl who want this in a guild, but if there is someone who is looking for this they might just join and become a loyal member who will stay because they know what goals the guild is trying to achive.

And maybe after finals and whatever other RL things are going on the other members will get back into the game and be enthused and help out.

this is good advice from Ryn Tyn Tyn, should you choose to go this route, you may consider setting up a website and forums (if you havent already) and getting a ts/vent server (this I feel is critical). Both of these things will greatly enhance your ability to draw and keep folks in the guild. Check out the how to start a guild thread in this forum also as many if not all of those ideas will apply to your guild.

Rny is right, advertise for what you want. There is actually a pretty big demand for 'learning to PvP' guilds, but you have to stick with that desire, you can't add people to the guild who want to do that then not PvP with them. Starting up a guild takes time and good support. It's best to know somebody in real life (or have played online with them for a long while) to have as an officer. I wouldn't suggest recruiting in the early day on weekends as you get players from all different time zones.
Also look into starting up forums or something for guild members to look at.

And most important, know what your guild is about and make sure new members know that too.

Recruiting a leader in need isn't very friendly in my opinion. Lets give him more advice so he can get his guild rolling again. You are not allowed to recruit here anyway (read the sticky please).

@OP, Ryn Tyn Tyn, Lennymon and Talinna offer good advice. I'd also use a forum, so you can post even when you are not in the game. This gives you a way to get in touch more (discussing something like a build goes better over a forum or TS than over guildchat), and it allows you to share info, as well as plan events.
