Just the question of the title:

Is it possible to play as a guest with a guild of the opposed faction, may be even against oneself's guild's faction?

Faction only effects Alliance battles and alliance rating really on the guild level. You can still gvg with them..

Heck, A luxon can even do Kurzich quests and missions.

People get the wrong idea that once you get in a faction you are totally cut and seperated from the other faction....quite untrue.

All Faction effects on the pve lvl is what crafters/traders/merchents you can talk too (ALL other NPCs function normally, if I am wrong someone correct me, but I could still do missions nad quests from the opposite faction). All on the pvp lvl is Alliance related stuff.
